For me hot sauces need to have a flavor to them. There are far to many that are hot just for the sake of being hot but have little to offer taste wise.

Living in Tucson I have been fortunate that there are a lot of home brew sauces made by some of the peopli I know/worked with that were awesome...unfortunately most don't share their recipes (ancient family secrets?).

Amen to that! The best stuff I've had is from a steakhouse in Mammoth when we met up with Snowtrooper for 4th of July several years ago. Man that stuff was good. I will be going back for more this year. But mostly for me it's plain old Sriracha. It's like spicy ketchup-goes good with eveything

for everyday tastebud tingle I like Frank's ret hot, but when i'm feeling kinda sadistic (read after a few beers) I like this stuff... Dave's insanity sauce. Funny thing, I feel like one of Pavlov's dogs... just thinking about it makes me start salivating...

Tapatio. Really cheap in Denver area supermarkets. I don't care for vinegar found in most hot sauces, this is the only one I found that doesn't have it.

Sriracha here. We put it in and on everything: omeletes, soups, BBQ sauce, burgers, guacamole, and a ton more.

I hate anything spicier than black pepper... in fact this thread even makes my taste buds scream in agony with all the hottness it has.

When I want to add just heat ... Pure Cap (comes in medical bottle with eye dropper)

I do like Dave's Insanity products but since I do not like tomato, its hard to find many that do not contain any. They used to have one that I liked "Total Insanity" that did not contain tomato ... no longer the case.

Rasta Fire is a fun carribiean flavored one ... good with chicken

What I find myself using these days is Sriracha ... just enough heat to not overpower ...

but if I am in a particularly fiesty mood... I ditch the sauces altogether ... and just sliver up some fresh habanero peppers (red savinia if I happen to have them available) and drop that on whatever I am eating
