Question Looking at new speaker options - any thoughts?

So I'm looking to upgrade my system again.
I was just powering my front and rears (cheap blaupunkts) with the head unit and have a 12" sub in the rear door panel (JL amp).

I just installed an Alpine MRP F-300 amp, now I want some nice speakers since the ones I have now are a bit overpowered and muddy at high volume. I want more clarity and power, clarity being my priority.

I have a budget for about $300 for a set of components in the front for now.
Here's what I narrowed it down to:

    - Pioneer 720PRS
    - Alpine SPX-17PRO
    - Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1
    - Boston Acoustics PRO 60SE edit

or just build my own set:
    mid-driver: Dayton Reference RS180-4
    tweet: Seas prestige 27TAFNC/D H1397
    crossover: Dayton XO2W-3.5K 2-Way

Anyone have any experience with these sets, or have other suggestions?

I sort of narrowed down what I'm looking at based on being able to get these locally. ebay from the US is an option, but import costs can add $40 to any price.

One other thought, does anyone think its an issue going to 6.5" speakers in the front. These selections can go up to 100-125W RMS and my amp can only push 50W RMS. So I'm curious if they are oversized if I'm listening at mid levels, would 5.25" be a better option to get better sound quality at normal listening volume...

Then again, I may be considering bridging to get 150W to the fronts and kill the rear fill in the future...

on a side note: I REALLY want these for the rears: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tchlink:top:en

They would match up just perfect with my sub! but probably THEY sound like $#!t. Not many reviews on blaupunkts.

    thanks!

I didn't even know blaupunkt was still around?

I've been using only INFINITY brand speakers in all of my vehicles for over 30+ years, and I'm pretty finicky when it comes to audio sound. The clarity and power capabilty of the INFINITY's are incredible. Crystal clear tingling highs, rightous mid-range, and punchy, solid bass without booming or rattles. I even use INFINITY brand home speakers in my Home Theater surround set-up. For pure "clarity", INFINITY ranks #1.

Check-out www.Crutchfield.com for various ideas and info. They even have aftermarket speaker-lead adapters that simply plug into your factory OEM wiring harness, so you don't have to cut/splice wires for aftermarket speakers (very slick). Ask Crutchfield about shipping to Canada, as they are very aggressive when it comes to customer service and satisfaction.

I would go for the Infinity Kappa 60.9cs (front) , and the Clarion SRP4620M (rear) Check eBay , maybe you can get both sets from that $300

You might want to look at some Boston Accoustics...I have them in my Dragon with an Alpine deck and they are awesome. The PO had a big amp and subs in it too. When he took that out he left these great BA speakers. I'm very pleased with them.

x2 on the boston acoustics, i have a pair in the front and they sound great. i like infinity amps, but their speakers tend to be a bit bright... alpine is usually pretty good, same with pioneer, but i havent used any of the model numbers you are looking at

Boston Acoustics . I love my ba's I have two sets of components in my car one step below the pro's I forget the series . Anyway they are crazy clear at absurd sound levels . I have them on a JL audio 4ch amp . The mid bass on mine , is a bit weak. But overall I have no regrets with my purchase . I actually go driving in my car just to listen to the stereo system .

On those BA's for $299.99 at Crutchfield and for those that have them, where did you hide the crossovers and do the tweeters mount in the factory position using the factory trim cover?

Can't speak for the BA crossover, as I don't know it's dimensions, but...

I was able to mount the crossover on these speakers to the interior metal behind the inner door skin without much trouble.

IIRC, a little forward, & a little below the window/lock switch panel on the armrest.
A few test fits with some double stick tape gets you to where you need to be...

I just installed a whole new frontal system including the Alpine SPR-17S component speakers. Can't recommend them enough. Quite affordable for a component kit and having already put them to the test, they perform VERY well.

It all comes down to personal preference IMO. Your best bet would be to go to a few stereo shops and listen to various speakers powered to the same level as what the amp you purchased is rated.

What sounds good to some may not have the sound you prefer, so like just about everything else, personal preference is subjective.

I've been a fan of Polk speaker systems for years, but there again...
