Hmmm, this is a very interesting thread indeed. We have a few of those radar speed limit signs here as well (normally near "School Zones"). I've always been in with other traffic around me and never isolated, so I can't make a firm determination yet. Still; this radar observaton warrants further analysis, so perhaps we can have various members of the Vehicross.Info flock report their findings on this thead with their experiences.![]()
When I test drove one, I went thru a school zone. It registered the correct speed. I believe color would have more effect on whether a vehicle registers or not. (Darker colors have been reported to be more stealthy.)
Plus, Police radar is designed to pick up/register the fastest car, maybe the stationary road-side units work similarly.
I've also heard vertical surfaces can play a part. Vette's for example tend to hide under the radar if shot from the front. Not a lot of surface to bounce back from. A VX has plenty of height/vertical surface. I'd be surprised if it didn't register -- especially if you're the faster vehicle.
