1999 Ironman I picked up this weekend

well trip went good 1350 miles in 2 days, most today with 850 from 9am tp 7pm with just stops for gas and Taco Bell, or maybe it should be the other way around . I met up with Sam and picked up his tires from him on the first day and put them on the next day. I stayed with cousin in Nashville for a rest day and left sat. Just seem to have one problem. On the trip up from Biloxi with the origianal tires when I filled up with gas there was a smell of burning rubber from the drivers side of the car, I felt the rim and the rotors and calipers and they were not hot to the touch just warm, this is after a 3 to 4 hr trip at 75-80 mph and pulling off highway to get gas, it also did it with the larger tires also same symptoms. I had someone check the rear end fluids and they were good. Anybody have any ideas that I could check out, have 4 more days to back out of deal, I don't want to though, I like it too much.

Congrats! Pics or it never happened!

Might check your rear wheel bearings, posibly they are shot (should have some noise if this is the case) also check to make sure your brake calipers are not sticking and rubbing.

Some before and after pics of your headlight project would be great as well.

    Which product did you buy?

I used the Meguiars with the drill pad before and it works good, but it's a short term solution...a year tops and you'll need to do it again.

If you keep them waxed good it will last longer. PlasticX will help also.

    yellowgiz,

This might sound strange, but the smell that you are getting on the drivers side could be coming from the muffler. I have been getting a "brake" smell at the rear drivers side wheel well since I first got my VX. It's been bothering me, but I could never pin it down until the other day. It was raining/snowing here and when I pulled into my garage I noticed that there was smoke coming out from under the VX (small panic). When I crawled under the VX I noticed that it was just moisture steaming off of the muffler and that "smoke" had the same smell that had always been bothering me.
Don't know why, but I'm pretty sure that smell comes from the stock muffler.
