    As a general rule of thumb...

    After cleaning & completely drying an oiled gauze type filter, I saturate the element with new oil, then lean it against something, so that it can drain, with many multiple layers of paper towels under it to absorb the excess oil. Another option is a bread pan, so you can save the exce$$ oil.
    After about 1/2 hour, wipe the rest of the excess from around the perimeter & blot just a bit more off the filter area & install.

    Since the stock airbox flows from the bottom up, excess oiling may be less of an issue, & even if you over-do it...the MAF is easy to clean...
