Definitely check the fluid before you burn out the pump or the gearbox. I just did both on my Trooper and it wasn't cheap. And Trooper parts are cheap compared to VX parts.

Have you tried using an additive like Lucas Oil Power Steering Stop Leak? The power steering pump in my '82 Mustang has always squealed, even when new, and this has made it considerably quieter, although not totally. It may be all you need until it fails completely.![]()
