dont know much about old FJs (they were before my time
as for the vx, its the best handling thing this side of a sports car.
that said, it is a labor of love if u will be putting a lot of miles on it. u really should either work on it yourself, or find someone u trust A LOT.
i use mine as a daily driver in winter (but have yet to experience real snow in it)
