    Basket opinion

I was hunting for a used Coleman Safari rack when I stumbled across this basket on Amazon. It looks different than most and it appears that the mounts may even fit our factory bars. What do you guys think?

    http://www.amazon.com/Rage-Powerspor...=pd_sbs_auto_3

I figured an unusual basket for an unusual vehicle. Opinions?

I like the look but it seems like you lose cargo space due to the way the bars bend back towards the center of the basket. Aesthetically pleasing, but maybe not so practical.

I did think about that but all I'd be putting up there is lights and maybe a full size spare.

I figure I'll get the Yakima load Warrior like VXKat has on hers (in her gallery). There have been some specials on them for like 249.00 inc. shipping. you then can get the spare tire mount for it with lock option. I'd already have one but at 2.50 a week in savings it's gonna take me a while.
So I said to myself, I said "Handee"
and this voice came back and said..
"He's not in, may we take a message?"

I think it looks fine, however with the Coleman rack I have, I had to shorten the tubes by 3/4"s to make it rest perfectly on the crossbars. I'm not saying you will have that problem with this rack, but something to keep in mind.

Hate to be the turd in the punchbowl, because I like the way it looks...but...

If you're putting a full size spare in that basket, it's not going to be much larger than the stock tire diameter (29 1/2")

    From the product description...

"The large Roof Cargo Basket is 30.25" wide x 45.25" long x 5" deep"

Yeah, that basket isn't real wide. I think Coastie has it. I went with another one from discount ramps(the same place that you can get that one from) and am fairly pleased. I too had to make some adjustments so that it will fit our crossbars. The only thing is that the basket is a little flimsy. (thin)

I had to perform a little surgery to make it fit our stock rails but its there now.

    With a tire in it.

Yeah, that's the only issue I'm seeing for my needs. I'm not planning on lifting as I'm going for a more Baja type end result than a lifted mudder or rock crawler. The tires I actually want to use are Yokohama Geolander A/T-S in 275/70R16, which comes out to 31.4". If/when I do get a full sized spare I was thinking I'd break out the torch and a couple 2x4's and open the top of the basket up an inch and a half then just strip it and rhino line it.

    I have this one...

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ROOF-...item5ad51ef2e2

    ...and LOVE IT.

Fits a full size spare no problem.

Only "mod" needed was longer bolts to fit our VX roof bar....and wind 'em down tight to bend the baskets straps to conform to our roof bar shape.

I still don't understand why Coleman discontinued their rack. It's such a nice sturdy rack for so cheap!

You're preaching to the choir Bart. It was the perfect rack for the VX.

Well, I think the one Jo linked to would be a good idea. That one looks pretty good, and I have seen it first hand on the ORW and it looks good up there.

Looks like it, I have a the same one as you (CrnCnn). Mine doesn't have the peice in the front but otherwise its the same. I bought it because it was cheap, could hold some weight (150LBS), and its flatish. IMHO I like low profile baskets on the VX because they flow better with the body style.
