I'd love to see some statistics on just what was 'clunked out'. From the little I saw at local dealers (just driving by) it looked like Ford Explorers were by far the most popular trade in.

Put a smiley after you say that Bub.
I buy cars for several dealers. One of the Ford stores I work with has taken in, by my guess, about 60 "Clunkers". A quick count of the mix is as follows: 12 Explorers/Mountaineers, 10 misc trucks F-150/Silverado/Dodge, 6 Jeeps(2 Wranglers), the rest are a mix of cars ie. old Lincolns, Pontiacs,Cadillacs, and Fords. By the way, 6 Isuzus...no VX'S (none 4x4). FYI.
So I said to myself, I said "Handee"
and this voice came back and said..
"He's not in, may we take a message?"
Sounds about what I expected (except for the Isuzus - didn't think that many would qualify).
I actually saw a guy trading in an old Caddy Limo (pretty ragged out) for a Kia minivan.
Thanks for posting your observation.
I drove past several dealerships this weekend and 3 had a dumpster set up and had real clunkers sticking out from the dumpster. Another had stacked up the clunkers on top of each other, 2 or 3 wide and made like a pyramid shape. Each one had a least 1 Explorer and I saw several Cherokees...you all have probably seen this around your area too. It just looked pretty funny seeing real cars sticking out of a dumpster and all stacked on top of each other!![]()

Remember that life is not measured in the breaths you take, but rather in the moments that take your breath away.
They did that at the Ford store I buy for, two old cars sticking out of a big dumpster. They actually had an old gentlemen stop and ask if they were throwing them away he would take them.
