grinding noise from front right wheel

I got the same problem, got brakes aparts, was told that semi metalic brake pads on slotted rotors would be bad, I just put ceramics on it tonite, no change, I think it's the rear brakes, its just fooling me when I drive it and break, strange, that when I use the parking breake the grinding doesn't reproduce but I think the parking break engages differently; what the heck; I had a front wheel bearings repacked last year, I jsut don't see how that could be it, when I have the car up in the air, there doesn't seem to be any significant play

parking brake is nothing but a mini-drum brake in the hub of the rear wheel. It doesn't use the same pads as the service brakes....it uses tiny brake shoes inside the hub

are you sure it is coming from right front wheel? I mean has anyone been outside the vehicle when your braking or does it just sound like that to you inside the vehicle? I ask because last summer same thing happened to me, and I was SURE it was coming from right front wheel, and it was a rear rotor, replaced both rear rotors and brakes and was fine, also I would use e brake instead of brake pedal to avoid the horrible noise and it did not make the noise with e brake.

just for future referance, when a tire, or tires get low on air, the T O D will make a type of weird grinding noise also. not just on one wheel, but mor of a general grinding/winding down noise.
