I got a whopping great 17mpg average over 50-odd miles acting as support vehicle for Bob the Beetle today.

Remember that's with chunky Coopers with roof tray and Wipacs acting as air brakes.

a timely thread as I was about to post on this. I just did an 800 mile round trip with the Proton (3" lift, 265/70s, K/N (pointless) filter). I was getting lousy city mileage (11-12) and the first part of the highway trip was about 13-14. I run AC full time.

I then remembered the adjustment I had to do with my Trooper and oversized tires, and sure enough--each mile marker I was only clocking 9/10 mile, so that improved my mileage. (though don't know if I am going faste or slower than speedometer reading...)

which brings me to my revelation: my mileage IMPROVED when I locked the Superwinch in 4x4 (only ran 4x2 since purchase in June),up to an adjusted 16.5 to 17.0. Plus my handling significantly improved (I think an AWD car is designed to handle in AWD, not 2WD). A few data points; we'll see how the mileage is in the city in 4x4.

for precise mileage, I use Gas Cubby for the iphone; best 4.95 you'll spend. precise mileage, and you can track octane, gas type, multiple vehicle, etc.

If your odo is registering less miles than actual, then your speedo is registering less than actual too.

If your margin of error is 10%, 60 mph registered = 66 mph actual.

Well, THAT would explain all the slow-*** people in the left lane!

thought is was the opposite; if it said 60 I was only doing 54...
