    Timing Belt on the 3.2

I'm about to tackle my timing belt in the next week or two, but does anyone know if there any differences between the 3.5 and 3.2 when it comes to timing belt change or parts?

Also, any suggestions as to best place to buy the bits?

    Cheers

No... Alan failed by buying the belt kit - from the US - for the wrong 3.2. That said, the friends that attempted the work said that the belt HAD already been changed and was good.

I think you'll find (but I'm not 100% - probably 75%) that the bits for the 3.5 engine will fit. I believe greasemonkey sucessfully did his so I'd be PM'ing him...

    Hope that helps,

    Alan

Yeah, I am not sure what the differences are between the 3.2 and 3.5, but I would say the process is probably similar. I just did mine and you can see the how-to I made by going to my website (in my sig).

Search ebay for "6VD1" for 3.2L and "6VE1" for 3.5L

You can also put the part name before or after the designations to narrow search.

    214 results found for 6vd1
    112 results found for 6ve1

Also select "Include title and description" (checkbox) to widen search.

These designations also work on google but I would put "Isuzu" in front of it or you'll have too much to sift thru.

I converted Barts timing belt How2 to pdf for easy printing. It's in the How2 section.

    Thanks guys!

This is reallt strange... I asked my local garage to quote me for doing the work... Needless to say they had never heard of the Vehicross! I told them it was the same engine as the Trooper so they contacted Isuzu UK, They came back witha quote of ?38 for a trooper 3.2 belt or ?78 for a Vehicross one!!!????

The other question is should I replace the tensioner? The best price I've got is ?150 so really don't want to unless I'm stupid if I don't!!!

Keep in mind that the '97 and earlier 3.2 is much different than the '98+ 3.2/3.5 engines. Make sure you get the right belt for your engine. The 3.2 was redesigned with a bunch of changes for '98. The guys at the Planet Isuzoo forum would really know about the timing belt for '97. The tensioner and water pump are always done with the timing belt change.

^yeah, 'cos that's what I did wrong. As I say, I have a whole fitting kit for the wrong engine.

You could also order from here - www.rockauto.com - they do all the VAT and stuff on the US side so you don't get stuck with the ?15 "Service Charge" from Parcelforce for sweet FA...

Hi the Trooper 3.2 and Vehicross 3.2 are different - the belt is 32 teeth longer lol
just use the Frontera B belt from Vauxhall its has exactly the same engine
The tensioner /idler / etc are the same though
    cheers
