Just proving to all you non-believers.....we do get stuck from time to time...should have had one less beer, or gone a littel faster the first time through!! it really looked dried and passable but the sun had actually baked the top inch of the mud and below was about about 2 feet of quick mud!!!!

i would laugh at anyone who tried to claim that they cant get stuck.... i promise that any vehicle will get stuck if you put it in the right situation.

x2. It don't care what you are driving, how much lift you have, what size and type of tire, you can always get stuck.

The very first rule of 4-wheeling is: "When in doubt; check it out".
The second rule of 4-wheeling is: "Pick the appropriate line of travel".

It would have been a good idea to get out on foot and examine the condition of the soil before attempting to cross with the heavy VX. In addition; with as much extra shoulder room you had on the trail, it would have been smart to "stradle" the trail tracks with one set of tires on the middle crown and the other set of tires on the firm grassy shoulder. Lesson learned.

Contrary to Peanut Butter Kid's advice; your scenario of being stuck in the mud is a prime example of why a "high-lift" jack would be absolutely worthless, as the high-lift jack would simply bury itself deeper into the mud immediately upon jacking. The very best jack used for muddy situations is the famous "Inflatable Exhaust Air-Jack" that has high flotation capability and a wide footprint enabling it to still lift up the vehicle. A simple "come-a-long" can be used in lieu of a winch.

lol, there you go, advertising for other people again

and actually when i mention having a hi-lift for this situation it isnt for jacking the VX up..as that would do NOTHING for someone stuck, just get their tire straight up in the air, you need to move forward or backward...
which a hi-lift can help you with , there are 2 attachment points on a high lift, so it can be used as a manual winch

I don't know you guys,but slutty's Vx looks like "FISH IN THE WATER"...very happy.LOL

And yes,never trust your eye when it comes to mud,it's very tricky,specially when it looks that dry.

When i used to rally i always carried a long wood stick,like 3.5 foot & use it in this kind of condition to veriify how dry is it & more importantly how deep ( Unless you are willing to get your leg into the mud )

All these theroies and what should have been done less beer and a buddy not beating me to go through it would have net me the end result I was looking for. Just so you know I did redeem my self and went back through it with a little more speed and went through just fine....
