    Is 265 75 16 ok for a 99 VX with factory 16" Wheels?

Just purchased a 1999 VX. Has a street type tire now. Want to change to a cool looking tire off road looking tire made by Kumho. It's called a MT KL71. I want to make sure with stock rims and suspension using a bigger tire of 265 75 16. Is it ok to go to this size? Thanks

When he was stock, his was a 1999 with OEM 16" rims.

I just fit that size tire on a stock 2000 VehiCROSS but with custom 16" wheels (+10mm offset as opposed to +38mm for stock wheels) which made it harder for me than it would be for you since your wheels are tucked up under the fenderwelds and mine are out further towards the outer lip of wheel well.

I'm running Nitto Terra Grappler 265/75/16 on the stock rims with no problems, just a little clad trimming.

I've been looking at that exact set from tirerack.com. Gathering all I can from this forum it should fit just fine. I also used this link http://www.bigcustomwheels.com/info_specs.jsp to see just how it will look.

    Thumbs up

I'm currently running the Toyo open country AT's in 265/75r/16 on the stock 16's with no problems. No trimming needed and no rubbing. You should be fine with your selection

Yes, the Kumho M/T KL-71 is a very cool looking "directional" M/T tire in LT265/75R16 (31.9" O.D./56 lbs). However, it is also extremely "heavy" at 56 lbs each. The OEM tires on a 1999 VX weighed only 33 lbs each, so you'd be adding 23 lbs of extra "unsprung weight" to each tire or a total of 92 lbs of extra weight for a set of 4 (23 x 4 = 92). This added unsprung weight is what dramatically affects VX launch, MPG, and braking distance in a very negative way.

Please reconsider an alternate "directional" M/T tire with the YOKOHAMA - GEOLANDAR M/T+ in LT265/75R16 (31.9" O.D./47 lbs) which is also very radical looking but weighs only 47 lbs each and is only 14 lbs over OEM (33 lbs) stock. Thus, you'd be adding only 56 lbs of total unsprung weight for a set of 4 tires. By keeping overall unsprung weight to a bare minimum will help maintain the VX's launch, offer the very best MPG for a M/T tire, and will greatly help keep braking distance to a minimum. I hope this helps in your decision process for a directional M/T tire.

i agree, the torque and fuel consumption are altered slightly but its worth it. You also got to think about the extra strain on the transmition. You guys with the 33" upwards tyres must be crossing fingers lol. However my 265 tyres are attached to steel wheels that are heavier than the oem alloys so my figures will be different.

Theres a guy in the gallery with 285 75 16 tyres on standard rims. check it out. Just type 285 into the gallery search.
