    Just out of curiosity...

Did a search for and could not find these specifics

Would anyone know what would be needed and what/which engine is best used if, say, I wanted to replace the stock engine with a (small enough) V-8 engine that would fit in a VX? What would be needed to "match" it up to the tranny? I have availability on almost an engine of my choice for free, (within reason, like, I couldn't get a corvette engine but something reasonable), and I am thinking I'd like to put a V-8 in. Can it be done within reason? Or what about a better i.e. more HP V-6. Maybe even the tranny too?
We sit together, my VX and I, until only the VX remains.

There’s not a lot of V6’s out there with significantly more power then the V6 that’s already in your VX. If you wanted to put a V8 in there you would need to replace the whole drive train. There is a member that’s doing this with an LS1 drive train. I think he was close to finishing the project.

Cars designed by spreadsheets make sense. Cars designed by engineers make history.

Coachreed started the project on the LS1 Install and he got to the point of installing the motor and I thought he had an adaptor made to mate the LS1 / Isuzu Tranny. But I couldn't find those pic,s but below are pic's of how it sat in 04 before he sold it. If you wanted to keep it 4WD it would take some work, but if you wanted just a RWD street VX drop in a SBC w/tranny and a cut to fit Driveshaft and even going carbureted would eliminate some headaches...

there are a few v8s that would theoretically mate directly to your stock transmission.. problem would be that our stock trans is only meant for up to 285 ft lbs of torque.. anything over that and you are going to probably cause some damage..

the possible engines would be the
4.0L v8 from an olds Aurora
    4.1, 4.5 and 4.9L pushrod v8s from caddy
    4.5L northstar v8 from caddy

You're trippin'....at 215hp our 3.5 liter was "modest" even by 2001 standards. Modern Hyundia 3.5 is bumping against 275...Nissan's over 300(3.7) much less the serious V6 guys in Germany. You couldn't sell a V6 with only 215 on tap any more....hell, they couldn't sell them then. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, don't take this the wrong way, but, our driveline is a boat anchor....a wheezy, overly thirsty, engine, mated to an overtaxed 4L30E 4 cog that was much happier in the Cimmaron...no matter how you program it. This car crossed some boundries, but the eng/trans certainly wasn't one of them. Strictly a case of what was available already, and cheap to buy.

You’re right there are some new naturally aspirated freaks of nature out there right now,

but that’s why I said there’s not a lot of V6’s out there with significantly more power.

I didn’t say there wasn’t any. That French monstrosity in the 350z is pretty cool. The

only thing I don’t like about it is it’s French.

The (N/A) heavy hitters in Germany right now is the Porsche Cayenne V6 at 290hp and the

    VW Touareg V6 at 280hp.

Back in 2001 the most powerful (N/A) v6 you could buy was in the Acura NSX-T

    3.2 L V-6 engine with 290 hp @ 7,100 rpm and 224 lb-ft of torque and it

still had less torque then the Isuzu 3.5.

In 2001 The most powerful (N/A)V6 made in America was the Chrysler

EGG. High-Output 3.5L in the Plymouth Prowler. at 253hp and it was the

only American V6 with more power then the Isuzu 3.5.

In 2001 The most powerful (N/A) V6 made in Germany was the Mercedes 3.2L E32 at 218hp.

PS: You’re right about the transmission, but the engine is hard to beat.

The new owner of CoachReeds VX is AlaskaVX! You can probably shoot him an email for some info. I don't think he has done anything with it since he bought it. I think the main thing it needs is wiring. I remember pic in which CR had basically hacked all the wiring off to start fresh

This should fill the engine bay nicely

    700 H.P 427ci 780 Ft Lbs. Torque

    Compression ratio: 9.0:1
    Bore x stroke: 4.125 x 4.00

    Acura MDX

Once i was told that the acura MDX's engine would perfectly fit the VX along with RDX turbo, since honda were once related to isuzu
    Dakar was just the begining.

When you look at a MDX engine it looks very similar to the Isuzu 3.5 but I don’t think they’re interchangeable.

I have no idea if that's true, however it'll be good to confirm that info.

The engine is a 3.7L with 300 HP of course the trans will have to being swapped.

If is possible i think the VX have a partner to rely on

In the early 90's GMC built a cute little S-10 pickup called a Syclone. It had a 4.2 ltr. V-6 Turbocharged to beginning at 290 Hp. The truck was AWD and......it was an Isuzu!
So what else could be the perfect replacement? A turbo V-6 fitting in an Isuzu truck with AWD and a minimum of 290 Hp. Seems like the perfect combination to me!!!!

PS: what do you mean a French engine in a 350Z???
