Man I do not know how you stand that blue, that would drive me crazy! I always use the hyper white on the domes and reading lights. I have blue LEDs all throughout the dash though and it looks great. So did you modify the fade in and out effect? It has been killing all my LEDs in that position only.
the lights only turn on when the alarm is activated or a door is opened.. blue LEDs under the dashboard too.. my map lights are white so i use those when i need to see something.. also have flashlights in the back if i need to find something in the cargo area.. the blue is just for effect
i havent had them go bad at all. what I did is tap the wires from the original bulb and ran them to a relay, instead of turning on the dome light bulb, it activates the relay.. when the relay gets activated it turns on the overhead LED fixture and 20 LEDs under the dashboard. only downside to this method is during the dimming period, the voltage drops to ~7 volts and the relay does not now how to handle it, so you hear a buzzing from the relay.
I ran a Blue LED dome light in my WRX when I had that...
I LOVED IT... I added a transistor/capacitor to the power source to make it fade in...
walking to my car at night when I'd push the unlock button the interior would just slowly light up and emanate blue... it was pretty damn cool.
that and things just look way sexier bathed in blue light.
but yeah that was just the dome light, it's only on when you open the door, the map lights were left white so you could see stuff... though I wouldn't do any reading under blue... tis good enough to find the key hole, or locate a CD, etc.
I will say though that the human eye has trouble seeing blue light... a little wimpy festoon bulb will be REALLY dim... you'll definitly have to go with some like what etlsport posted
This is the LED dome I have. No modification needed. less than $10 shipped.
