    replacement muffler $500?

Isuzu wants $500 for a replacement muffler. I orderd one from Ipartsonline, but it does not fit. Can I get the muffler that fits somewhere other than the dealer?

Midas??? look in the yellow pages under "M"...for muffler.
    .................................................. or "E"... for exhaust.

Maybe it doesn't fit because my vehicle does not have the original muffler? It is a big long tube shaped thing? Is that what came on it?

Your tip about looking up "muffler" in the yellow pages was very helpful. Clearly I am not intelligent enough to post on this board.

Your choice is a retro fit a substitute muffler that makes a fair bit of noise, or the OEM muffler for $500.00 that truly fits the Vehicross and sounds civilized but takes 3 months to construct in Japan.

You mean to tell me that NO aftermarket muffler, that actually muffles (Midas, Sears, Meineke, & about a million other mom & pop muffler shops) can be made to fit???

I'm having a hard time believing that...

Ldub, I think you're reading too much into the prior post. The choices are something aftermarket which may fit or be made to fit but will likely be louder, or the OEM one which will fit, be heavy but sound civilized

Midas or any of the above listed shops can install both a resonator and muffler and be as quiet as our factory mufflers. And if they can't find something quiet.

Go to a GM dealership and get a muffler for a colorado or something. Mufflers are basically universal, a good muffler shop should be able to install basically ANY muffler on our vehicles... we have a lot of room where the muffler sits.

Stop in a midas and talk with them for a few minutes... I'm sure the'll talk you through it

I seem to recall an old thread where someone mentioned that a major chain they were trying to use indicated that it was illegal for them to install anything other than OEM.

I find it hard to believe but ???

You're much better off talking to some Yokels who can recommend a shop that is tailored to performance installs. (IMHO)

Technically speaking in California the aftermarket muffler must have an CARB "EO" number or whatever to be legal.

But I believe they're the only state that requires that. Basically anything you do to your car in california that has anything to do with emissions control, or engine, needs that Number/stamp Including intakes, exhaust etc. etc.

    But anywhere else I think you're A-OK...
