Had my front bearings repacked today

I took my VX to the local mechanic today that I use to do services a bit more involved then oil changes..

He has a lift and a mechanic there who has a vested interest in the shop (its a quick lube place)

He repacked my bearings for a small fee ( C-note ) and told me that the grease was drab and there were some burn marks on the bearings.. It was a good choice to have this service done..

The VX was built in july of 2000 so the grease was almost 8 years old and suffered through many hot Arizona summers outside sitting parked and has 38,000 miles on it.. I will repack them again when I do my brakes at about 60,000 miles.. it was good peace of mind.

Just wanted to pass that along for those of you thinking that the grease will make the brake change.. if your vehicle is a 2001 its almost 8 years old.. long time for lubricant

    Thanks for your time
    Jeff

I had a CV Boot replaced. When they do that do they automatically repack the bearing?
    Peace.

Repacking the bearings is supposed to be done with the 30,000 mile "major" service.

If you live in the heat belt and don't put a lot of miles on your VX, then having it done every 2-3 years is probably a good PM.
