The Gatorback coating I got for the cladding is a satin finish and a few shades blacker than the original colour

So have you sprayed he gatorback on yet? I looked your gallery, but wasn't sure if your vx was gatorbacked or had cladding product on it. I got the gatorback black, just waiting for some warmer weather....I'd love to see how it turned out if you did yours though.

The badging is gone from the back of mine & no one even noticed. Oh yeah, it's covered by the spare

Not yet, That's Maguires #40 you're seeing. I'll do it while the wheels are getting powder coated, and the car is sitting on stands any way. Coupla of weeks. I'll post photos

Yeah, I figured whoever got around to doing it first would have posted something on it, looks like it might be me. Our weather is supposed to get above 70 after thursday.

I assume you are gonna take the cladding and half moon off to shoot them. Go to the auto paint store and get a roll of 3M double sided tape, and a can of adhesion promoter (better yet, the 3M little foil pouch, adhesion promoter You'll need several of these) and a can of adhesive remover. When you pull the cladding off, soak the old tape with the remover for a few minutes, then scrape it off with a nylon scraper or anything (I use a square,flat X-acto knife) don't gouge the plastic too bad. It'll take a few times to get it clean. Wipe on the promoter....place the new tape, before you paint. Saves flipping a freshly coated piece around to re-tape it. Never reuse the tape (I know it's tempting) Chopper

Sounds about right I have the promoter already, any idea how much tape I'll need? I am planning to shoot it with an HVLP sprayer to hopefully waste as little as possible. I am also going to bedliner my mirrors(not the reflective part, haha), the wiper arms, the plastic corners of my roof basket, the fang grill smooth area, and maybe my wheels,hitch and winch/mount (now gloss black). I already did my hood insert and really liked how it turned out(no fading/treaking/etc). So after everything, the whole thing will be matte.

I shot the wheel flare from a Jeep to check it out...I really like it alot. Gonna do the insert and maybe the roof rails too. Not too flat, not too shiny....perfect. The tape comes in a 25ft.( I think) roll. You may need two.

I think either or will probably look good. Of course, I lean towards the Max look, but like Dub said, it might be tough to clean, but that said, clean is something Mad Max could care less about!

That's the beauty of the teflon, all you need is a hose and a quick wipe and they look new, and pretty flat as it is.
