I actually contributed to several D&D classes that became AD&D character classes during that rewrite - guess that dates me. I've still got my original, hand-typed letters that went to Gygax for Martial Artists, Ninjas, Samurai and others. A couple of things got published in some early Dragon magazines. By the time it went to hardcover print, there were enough changes that they didn't credit me for anything - not a big deal. By that time I had started to get away from RPG anyway. I still have all my books and a few figurines just for old times sake.

Not to jack this thread any further, but yeah, D&D was awesome. I started playing regular D&D and then went to AD&D. I also loved all the Gord The Rogue books. I read all those and still have em. I did sell all my "choose your own adventure" D&D books a while back though...probably should have kept them though!

    Thumbs up

I will officially certify that John is a geek.

To further jack down the track, never got into the RPG thing after trying AD&D, C&S, Cyberpunk and Rifts but really got hooked on tactical miniatures such as BattleTech, Warhammer 40K and various historical-based systems like MicroArmor, Spearhead and currently Flames of War. Haven't determined yet if fantasy nerds are more annoying than historical nerds, or which smells worse.

Had to add this hilarious D&D-themed vid after finding it on the 'Tube, an oldie but a goodie! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zng5kRle4FA

Theres a not so fine line between using your imagination, mental and social skills, and this:

I never really understood why people thought RPGs were nerdy until I met other people that played them. Bart's quote above is absolutely correct. I think a lot of the stigma comes from the actual nerds, not the games. I always viewed RPGs as the bridge between books and movies, you use your imagination, but there is more involvement and a story you can have a personal impact on.
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable man persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on me.

    Ahhhh, BattleTech....

Long time, no coring headshots. Loved the game. Liked the online stuff as well. Not that many of us out here. The other RPG's, well, never got a chance to really try them out. Once I found BT, never went any further. Did very little D&D, a lot of the military RPG, but nothing like WarHammer or such.

How did we get on that subject again??

Whoa whoa whoa.... if PnP/CRPG players are THAT nerdy, what can be said for the people that spend their waking hours on payroll creating them? I havent touched a dice (we'll leave the casinos out of this one....) since the 80's but I have made the damned things for the past 12 years.

Speaking of LARPing, this was on tv last night. I missed it but set the DVR to record it the next time it came on....

I saw some clowns up around Aberdeen, MD in some tournament at a park when I stopped off on my way back from NY years ago. That was the most amused I had been in a LONG time. I wanted to hollar out something about "getting a life" or "how nice it is to get laid every now and then", but they probably would have beaten me down with their Nerf swords.
