    15 Miles per gallon x 20 gallons = 300 miles on a tank if I wait for the low fuel light to come on. In the almost nine years I have had my VX I would say my mileage has alway been between 12 and 17 be it on the highway or in the city.

    so I'm guessing I'm not the only one getting less than 15 mpgs? I'm usually filling back up at around 220-230 miles on the trip. Practically all highway, all stop and go and without a warm up period. no engine mods, no oversize tires all stock.

    I used to feel your pain.

    Ascinder - It was easy once you get past the allen bolt on the back of the chamber area. I think it was etl - erik that cut down an allen wrench to fit in that tight spot. Do a search and you will find a thread I and he has on it. The screen in my reg. was torn and I was running too rich. I would assume this is the case with most.

    For the past 4 yrs I've always gotten 320 miles before my fuel light would come on around tight corners and a fill up would be a bit over 18 gals. For the past month or so I've suddenly dropped to light coming on solid at 275 miles and fill up is 20 gals.. At first I thought maybe it was due to the winter fuel, 10% ethanol, but I never had that issue in past winters. I haven't really had any of the signs of the fpr going bad other than an occasional rpm surge or decline. I did notice the other morning when I went out to warm it up that the exhaust is pretty dark. Sooo,, I'm appealing to the brilliant minds of the vxinfo as to whether ya'll think the fpr could be my source of drastic fuel consumption?
    thanks for all the help in the past, current, and future... It's well worth the $20.00.

    Hey Jody,

    Funny, the same thing has happened to me recently - the light would come on between 17 and 18 miles. Now it's coming on at 20 so I've had to adjust and make sure I get to a station quicker. I just rolled over 100k. Fuel consumption hasn't changed.

    11mpg/220 a tank avg
    S/C with 93octane
    285/60 tires

    But it only gets about 3k miles a year on the odo. And since it sits in the garage much of the time, who knows how much of the gas actually stagnates and evaporates. I am sure it would get better mpg were it used daily. Considering I only have to gas it up maybe once every few weeks, you wont see me complaining, heh.

    {put on dweeb hat}

    Not sure if JHARRIS got a straight answer to his question about how tire diameter affects speedo/odo readings.

    C=circumference
    d=diameter
    pi=3.141598

    C=d*pi

    All you really need to know is that circumference is directly proportional to the diameter and that your speedometer and odometer sensors are just reading tire rotation related to some point in your tranny. Sooo ... if your tire diameter increases by 10% both your speedometer and odometer will read 10% less than actual (your speedo reads 80mph, you're actually going 88mph and your odo reads you went 300 miles, you actually went 330 miles). I'm running 33x12.50s and TomTom tells me that I'm exactly 10% off on my readings.

    Don't be scared, but you may want a mechanic to look at your spark plugs and check the color.
    Cheap spark plugs will burn off their center eletrode, making too large of a gap.

    True however if the liquid did not fowl the plugs they are rated for 100k. Too rich = new fpr.

    Update new week.....

    I did a bit of mud/snow slinging this past week so I assume that is the 20 mile difference.

    I needed a camera

    My usual is to drive at least three days to/from work before looking to fill up. (Work is ~~47 miles one way.) Last week I tried it a fourth day, the "gas light" came on before I got to the staion, and I got a little worried, but I made it. I got about 370 miles, put in 20.7gallons. (I fill up the neck. I won' stop filling until there is gas to the cap.) Still stinky mileage, but you do have range.

    By the way, I'm all stock. Didn't run the air beyond defrost.

    LOVE THE "V".

    Just a FYI about overfilling up to the neck...
    It's possible to damage the EVAP cannister/ system by doing so... a little searching will provide more info to back this up.
