arrrrgggghhhhh windshield woes

got in the vx today.. it was raining for the first time in awhile.... i noticed some water on my dashboard.. so look up and theres a trail of water running down the INSIDE of the windshield.. inspected the outside... the windshield frame is rusted... from the looks of it pretty badly... AHHHHHHHHH anyone know a good body shop in the philadelphia or maryland area?

Even worse ... they'll probably break the dang windshield trying to get it out to fix the rust.

i think it is aftermarket...i didn't have it replaced but spike pointed out that I've got the blue tinting across the top of the windshield which i guess isn't stock.. im gonna be super ticked if they break it on the way out

Would the "You break it, you buy it" law not apply in MD?

i would hope it would apply.. but not sure ive heard of shops trying to replace rear view mirrors that if they break the windshield the owner of the vehicle is responsible for the new one.. regardless of who is responsible im sure it would be tough to track down a new one

Wish you were here, I'd hook you up. My son lives in Doylestown, and works in a tuning shop (I think in Warrington) With the way those guys are constantly building and bending cars, they gotta have a good body shop on the line. I'll get some info for you this weekend, and shoot it your way. What's in the picture is not bad...looks like the glass was replaced at some point, and the resulting gouges were never treated properly(if at all) before the glass was reinstalled. Taking out the glass is cake, only a hack would break it, and your insurance covers %100 of windshield replacement anyway (the glass man covers his own breakage here) worry more about gouges in your dash...that happens all the time I'll get back to you before Monday. This is a good deal as it cost me around $400 to replace mine last year. The insurance wouldn't get me anything but aftermarket as they said the real thing was just under $1K.

This is who I had do mine when a rock struck my original windshield and cracked it (Erie, PA location)...they offered to replace my windshield @ my residence or @ work but I opted to take it into their shop. Had it done like 3 years ago; no leaks so far.
I did have that top rubber trim start to lift out on the passenger side...but, I just used some black RTV and taped it down with black electrical tape for a few days...removed the tape and it has stayed put ever since.

doh! took it to get an estimate today.. 850 and ill have to pay an additional 275 if they break the windshield in the process

Bummer Eric. I wish I knew of a good body shop for ya.

I've actually got the same problem on the back window of the the TLC. BTW, none of the 'shade tree mechanic' fixes I've tried did any good. Hope you have better luck.
