    FRAM vs Deutsch vs Purolator

    OK, so I finally got my hands on a Purolator # PV-1061 PCV valve.

    In the past, I have been using Deutsch and FRAM, and I didn't notice much of a difference in fit. This past 3000 miles though, I burnt oil worse than ever, and this was with a FRAM valve. Deutsch seems to be a better option over FRAM.

    Now, yesterday I installed a Purolator # PV-1061. I noticed right away, that the valve is taller, and fits much, much snugger than both the FRAM and Deutsch valves. With the Purolator, the hose clamp actually fits tightly. With the FRAM and Deutsch valves, the hose clamp was loose around the tube.

    So this got me thinking. We all know that the PCV system is one of the possible oil burning culprits. So, thinking about it, a tighter, snug fitting PCV valve should help prevent oil from blowing out through there, right? Or am I just talking out of my arse?

    Ldub, you use Purolator all the time, right? How is your oil burning? I hope to see an improvement now that I have switched.

    ive used only purolator.. my oil burning is normally good.. 3/4 to 1 quart every 3k miles.. although the last 3 weeks or so its burning more.. probably time to change it again

    I use Deutsch PV 193. It seems ok but you are right. It is not a snug fit.
    I will try the Purolator PV 1061 next oil change

    Yeah, tell me about it. The last few months my VX needed to go a an oil AA meeting or something...

    I need to find out what valve I have been getting from Napa. But I usually go through less than a quart of Royal Purple every 3K to 5K. I rarely check the oil nowadays actually - I should probably pay more attention though. I pour Sea Foam through the PCV port, the oil fill hole, and in the fuel tank a week before an oil change to loosen all the accumulated gunk before I change the oil to get things as clean as possible for the new stuff. I even jack up one side of the VX to get more old oil out. I use Royal Purple followed by a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil in the motor at every oil change. I also use Royal Purple in the trans, t-case, and diffs - and, no, I am not a salesman!

    Hey dude,

    I've used the SeaFoam before, but WTF is Marvel Mystery Oil???

    I'm gonna do my diffs and trans soon, maybe I will go the Royal Purple route. Summit sells it over here in Reno. What sort of LSD additive did you use in your rear diff?

    Purolator is all I've ever used...new one at every oil change. So far, 0177 uses no oil between changes. K&N filters, Mobil 1, and a long, easy break-in didn't hurt (it took 20 months to put on the first 2000mi....I've other DDs and the M-coupe toy...only bought it cause I really liked the way it looked)

    yea on this oil change through the first 3k miles i burned about 3/4 quart.. ive burned a full quart in the last 1 k though.. ill swap out the pcv now and see if the consumption goes back down until i change my oil

    Yes sir, I do...I use a little less than a qt. between changes just roddin' around town...prolly less if it was all hi-way miles, & Suzy just turned 52 today.

    52? You mean only 52,000 miles?

    I will certainly be reporting back on my VX's oil consumption with the Purolator valve...

    Well...

    ...its been a couple weeks, and my VX is still burning oil like crazy. Actually, it seems that my oil burning in the last 8,000 miles is worse than ever. I really am getting pissed off with this. Its like every time I get gas I have to add oil...something is fubar. Maybe I should try cleaning/replacing my EGR.

    Gas mileage has been piss poor as well.
