I do not understand what you mean by "will become a follower of thee." Other countries have been dealing with terrorism for generations and have not gone out and started unprovoked wars in response.

If you were in office, what would your exact actions be?
1) Investment in infrastructure. Instead of ridiculous spending on "anti-terrorism" I would have ear-marked money for first responders like paramedics, police, fire-fighters and hospitals. Money for cities to develop emergency contingency plans. Investment in the kind of things that help with any sort of disaster be it man-made terrorism, man-made accidents or natural disasters.

2) Investment in people. Instead of funding the military-industrial complex to kill thousands of innocents and thus create more terrorists I would have invested in aid to the areas where terrorists find support. The invasion of afghanistan was a great start, get involved with the locals and give them good reason support us and not our enemies. The problem is we did not follow through. After accomplishing the headline news objective of toppling the taliban we bailed out. Leaving them to deal with a power vacuum of our own creation.

Iran was doing pretty well compared to previous decades, Khatami needed more support. Instead, the invasion of Iraq polarized opinion against the US and thus him and now the country has taken a major step backwards under Ahmadinejad.
