Man, I don't even know where to begin. How about this:

-Don't confuse faith and religion. Faith cannot be proven, hence the name.

-The concepts of Total Depravity and Free Will fall into the discussion of why bad things happend to good people, etc.

-Not all faithful people are Republicans. Not all religious people are faithful.

-Don't blame faith for the problems of Religious Fanaticism (from any group).

    -Not all Christians are Republicans.

-Claire was hotter when she weighed a little more. Too skinny now.

-I don't think the Mona Lisa is pretty.

That's my point, he's not a radical. The radical christians are the ones killing, or at least calling for the killing of, doctors who perform abortions and putting the beat down on gays, etc. Ryan does not strike me as the kind of person who would do that.

It will probably enough to get most of the world to stop fighting with itself and unite against a common enemy. But it will also probably mean the descent of the entire world into a global military-fascist society the likes of which we have not seen before.

Especially if he looks funny - just look how easy it is to demonize regular humans, if ET is some ugly looking freak the power-grabbers will be calling him Lucifer on talk-radio within days.

The only chance the planet has of surviving a contact with ET is if he looks like an angel. A glowing, golden-skinned, flying, feather-winged angel. Even that may not be enough, the really smart power-grabbers will just spin ET as Lucifier before the fall.
Yeah I could see that happening, society as a whole seems to be so scared of what it doesn't understand and typically has an unwillingness to try to see others perspectives that some would rather pull the trigger or detonate a bomb than to actually put forth some effort to try and understand each other. Poor Et he is so screwed. Maybe we should ask the presidential nominees what they would do if ET did show up? That could be the new 3rd party Rep, Dem, and ETlovers..... or maybe not at all.....

I stand corrected and that was not aimed at ryan directly, but those of who feel that their belief in the unknowable trumps another person's beliefs in the unknowable.I may have taken it to the extreme, but I hope you get my point..
