    Unhappy Transmission service costs?

It is apparent that my transmission mode switch has failed and likely caused serious transmission damage on my VX.

So what kind of cost could I be looking at? Have any of you had a dealer overhaul your transmission? I cannot do this kind of work myself.

why do u think its caused serious transmission damage? many members here have had their mode switch fail without causing damage to the transmission.. if you do a search for transmission mode switch you will be able to fiind part numbers and where to get a replacement mode switch for lower cost

Why I think there's tranny damage...

...because there is violent grinding that vibrates the whole car while in first gear.

    the damage is done...

My Decatur, GA dealer wants $5500 to replace the transmission.

My VX has 130k miles on it. I just don't know if the repair is justified at this point. I may just have to part with my VX.

My 93 Eclipse has 200K miles & my 93 TLC has about 250K (not sure because odo was broke for a while - it's showing 230K)

Yours is just getting 'broke in' by my standards.

You need a 'good ol boy' mechanic that can do it cheaper. Dealer prices are always high.
