Help!!!!!!!!!!!

i recently took my vx in because the TOD check light came on and the check engine light was also on. at first the dealership was unable to figure out why the two lights were on because they had incorrect vx manuels. well i finaly got a call today from a guy who didnt seem to know much about anything car related but said that we need two new speed sensors running about 500$$ each. i was wondering if anyone had any advice or related expierience with this problem??

How is the truck running? Is the TOD working? Have you run through water/mud lately? If you have try unplugging the battery to re-set and see if the lights come on again. For information gathering, call Merlin and see how much sensors run. According to Isuzuparts.com They run around $350-380 a piece new. http://www.isuzuparts.com/partscat.html Merlin might do better.

Definitely disconnect your battery for at least 30 minutes to an hour to reset the ECU and see if it clears the codes.

I had a similar problem. what it turned out to be was the gas cap was not screwed down tight enough after I got gas.Do the battery disconnect thing and then check your gas cap.

The TOD system uses two speed sensors on the front and back axle. It compares the two speeds, and if they don't match, it turns up the power to the front wheels.

I suppose they COULD fail, but I can't see them both failing at the same time. Try the reset maneuver the previous posters suggested, and while you're poking around, look for any loose cables. The box that controls the TOD system is in a box under the passenger seat. Make sure it hasn't been damaged.

Finally, you can get your own copy of the manuals by going back to the main page, and look for "VX Workshop manual". Page 354 of the PDF might be enlightening.

Had the same problem late last month and I definitely concur that you should reset the CPU by unhooking the battery.

Also, if you drove it through some serious water, it might be the sensors becoming wet.

In my case, it was a combination of heavy rain, as well as my radiator resevoir being overfilled by the service station. After 13 hours of driving on a hot highway, radiator fluid spilled out of the overflow in the cap, and right down onto my front sensor package for the TOD (wherever it is located..;0)

Anyway, I haven't had the problem reoccur since, although my check engine light still comes on (I believe that's oxygen sensor related, though).

But I agree.. having your TOD light come one (and start flashing in my case) is unnerving.

Try this before you spend the big bucks in order to see if you get a reoccurence.

I am having the same problem with my TOD. It seems every time it rains it starts going all crazy. If I put new sensors on and they get wet will I have the same problem? Is there any way to know which sensor is bad with out having to replace both the front and rear sensors?

Before replacing any sensors, try looking on the underside at all the connectors and wiring harnesses around the tranny. I've heard of other VX owners who have found frayed and burnt wiring harnesses that were routed too close to the exhaust. They ended up fixing, heat-wrapping, and/or re-routing the harness to keep it away from the exhaust to prevent future damage.

If the harnesses look ok, try disconnecting some of the connectors, cleaning them, applying some dielectric grease (for water-proofing), then reconnecting them to see if that doesn't solve the problem.

Malfunctions when it's wet would indicate water getting somewhere it's just not supposed to be. If it was simply a sensor, the problem would most likely occur all the time.

I agree with Y33TREKker advice i also went one step farther an applied liquid electrical tape on many of the of the electrical connections that found on there. you never know when you may end up in a pond or not so frozen lake haha...

your local isuzu dealer can tell you which one is bad

I put on new tires and have had a problem with the TOD ever since. When I acclerate (a normal accleration) My TOD goes crazy. Any suggestions to fix this problem?
