I'm loving my 2000 VX but that black paint... ugh! Hot!!! Shows dirt easy... every little body ding stands out even more. Nice factory paint but I think it's got to go!
I was looking at some rally VXs and found this in skidplates gallery. Thanks!
The dirt on Maui is red by nature. It can stain clothes and tinge white paintjobs. You have to really scrub to get the stuff off. There's even a T-shirt company that uses the stuff to dye shirts called the Red Dirt Shirt Co.I digress...
I really like the idea of painting the cladding, hood insert, wing, roof rails and mirrors a nice brick red and the rest a light desert tan with just a bit of the same red tint added. It would look great moist of the time because the dirt would just blend in!
I'll only use PPG paint because it's the best. I've sprayed gallons of the stuff and it's tough. Holds up to dings from rocks really well and they have a flex agent that can be added for painting bumper covers.![]()
I can also get some really good quality clear undercoat to cover the paint on the cladding to help keep it from chipping. Then add a few lights and some stickers and it's a Rally VX!![]()
So how would you paint your VX?
