    Hood insert stability

OK, so I hgavent fully decided as to which direction I would like to with the cladding. Zeus’ and Mark Miller’s rides look great. Now what ever one I choose to copy, or spin to my own version, I NEED to do something about my hood insert. Ever since I tried that bondo back to black crap it looks horrible.

My concern is the infamous crack. If I attempt to remove the hood insert to prep and paint it, will it break more and fall apart?

I would try stop-drilling a hole at the end of the crack to prevent it from going any further, then, while you have it off, clean it real well and slap on some epoxy to help reinforce it, then do whatever coating. I think I have that same crack, and that's my plan. If you want, I have some single use packs of really good epoxy you can have, just let me know.

If you can smooth off that crack maybe that spray on bed liner they are making bras from will work. I saw on another thread someone saying that looked like a good idea to redo the hood insert.

Depending on what you want to do, you could also quite easily just paint the hood insert without removing it. You would just need to do a thorough masking job to protect the rest of the truck.

I think this is the route I will take. I am not sure if i need to sand it down any or just use some prep stuff.

My work schedule will be changing soon so i will have more days off to complete some projects.

Yeah, I don't remember your insert having a bad crack, did it? Maybe a little 1000 grit sand paper and a good post sanding cleaning is all you will need.
