OK folks....

...for those of you who are familiar with the area, I will be coming from Nevada via hwy 50. I want to pick up Hwy 70 to Moab. It looks like there are three ways I can go:



1) Which route is the fastest?

2) Which route is the most scenic?

3) Has anyone ever taken that "Crystal Peak Road"?

You are asking for polar opposites with fastest and most scenic though...

Occasionally mutually exclusive, but typically not.

Well, I am not REALLY in any hurry, so I wouldn't mind taking the pretty route, as long as it isn't like going to add 4 hours and another $40 in gas to take that way...

Read until the end, then decide. That is Snake Pass, so maybe I am wrong about Crystal Peak Road. I am trying to track down more info but I think they are just a bunch of dirt roads down there.

Should be ok, I just found this:

"Some of these roads might not be labeled so use your odometer. All of the roads mentioned are either paved state highways or well graded dirt roads; a high clearance vehicle is not needed for any of these driving routes. Make sure you have plenty of gas as the closest gas station is in Baker, Nevada 40 miles away."

So even if it is dirt, as long as it isn't like 10mph dirt, I'm good. And after seeing this photo:

I think we will definitely take this route, its looks pretty cool and besides, I like to take back roads....

Take the scenic runs man, I did Moab to Vegas and back to Moab last year and the views are spectacular through Utah. And those twisting roads are a blast too...

That is cool - but that looks like about 90 miles of dirt road to get to I-15! Plus the turn off to the peak. I am glad you are not in a hurry. It would be cool to see though. Crystal Peak Road turns into Black Rock Road... "Interstate 15 northbound at the Exit 135 diamond interchange with Utah 161 south (old U.S. 91) and Black Rock Road west. Utah 161 flows southeast to Cove Fort nearby. Black Rock Road provides an unpaved route between the freeway and Black Rock (junction Utah 252) 23 miles to the west."

Yeah, It should be nice. I will have 10 gallons of spare gas, my GPS and 10 gallons of water plus food and stuff, so I think I am prepared enough.
