Vinyl Decal on Hood Insert

I have chosen a Radioactive theme for my proton. I was thinking of putting something like this http://www.phatdecals.com/index.php?...=2&prevstart=0 on the hood insert. I wanted to know from everyone if this will work as far as sticking to the hood, fading, the heat from the hood, etc.

The size of the decal would be close to the size of the insert.

I would say it would likely fade if it is not UV stabilized ink. I would recommend putting a clear UV film over the decal too.

I would also be very very very careful putting it on in a completely dust free area. Even if you get every grain of dirt off your hood, the sticker might pick up a grain when you peel off the back and then when you stick it on, there's this tiny bump under the sticker that looks terrible - especially if the sticker is glossy. (I've been there) Try to avoid sharp square angles too, as these would peel up over time on a large sticker like that - try to round them out a bit.

I think the idea is cool, but I would go for a rad symbol with a circle or triangle border around it..

I have a vinyl decal on mine hood for about half year. Taking into account unfriendly conditions like snow and dirt it is still there:

How about painting it on there with some good paint.or put a hood scoop on like mine.

Most likely painting will not last, it will crank due to high temperature drops and flexibility of plastics, IMHO.

Personally, I think you should stencil it on with paint. Basically, go to an art store and buy a role of "Frisk Film". This is basically a giant roll of low-tack, clear contact paper. Then you create your stencil, cut it out with an X-acto knife, apply, spray, remove, voila!

I have done this with great success in the past. But, you have to take your time. This method does create a lot of room for error, also. I wish I had some photos of my old cars from college that I had painted up...
