SeaFoam in with the oil...

...ok, so I've got fairly bad oil consumption. I have had bad oil use since I bought my VX with 28k.

I've also been reading loads of info here:

Has anyone ever used this in their VX? I am thinking of trying this out right before my next oil change to see if it helps. My VX was a city VX before I bought it, so most likely LOTS of short drives, which I hear can cause carbon build up and sludge. I have been fully synthetic in the engine with Mobile-1 since my first oil change 2 days after I bought it.

It sounds like this product could seriously help my oil issue. And it sounds easy and relitively safe if added about 30-45 minutes before my next oil change.

What do you all think? Any experiences?

Thanks. I just read through all those posts.

Now, I still have a couple ?s.

1) If I use the Sea Foam, should I do my crankcase, gas tank AND throttle body? Or can I get away with just doing the crankcase? I want to do a thorough job, but I am just not really sure how to do the "sniffing in through the PCV Valve" part.

2) If I do the Sea Foam job, should I also clean my EGR at the same time?

I think this will really help my VX, I'm just a little nervous, as usual, doing this without a complete and full understanding of the process. Not to mention, my VX is my only ride, so if I eff up, I can't get to work, which would be bad...

I wouldn't worry about the throttle body. I run the stuff through my tank about once a month (one can perfectly dilutes a full tank) and mix it in with my oil with about 75 to 100 miles left every couple changes. I've seen a vast improvement in how she runs and uses fuel and oil.

Your local chevy dealership carries the best top end cleaner. (personal opinion)
I think it is actually called top engine cleaner.
It has the proper instructions on the bottle.

It’s been a while since I used it but this is what I remember.
Basically you unhook a vacuum hose, it gets sucked into your engine until it stalls.
You let it sit for like 30 minutes.
Then you drive it fast and hard, it smokes so bad you think you F’d your engine up!
But just after a little while you would swear you had a tune up.

well,,,i just did the whole seafoam thing, and i thnk it did a good job. i think i defenatly got better gas mileage after doing the treatment. the oil did look pretty dirty, and havent checked the trottle body after wiffing it in the tube. i used the tube on the intake, about 3-4 inches in front of the throttle body. i also went about 400 miles with the stuff in my oil, before i changed it.
but alas now i dont know since my truck threw a timing belt on wendsday. more on that in another post......i dont think it had anything to do with the seafoam, although my friend/ ase certified mechanic said he would never do it, and suggested i dont do it either. but i did it anyway. im going to be waiting for a while while the truck gets fixed, but looking forward to see what my gas milage will be AFTER getting my timing belt, and timing back on track. all that said, the jury is still out in my situation......i dont think the sefoam had anything to do with my breakdown

OK, so this stuff is safe in the gas tank? You just pour it in, and it does its thing?

Interesting. I think I will try it before my next oil change. I already asked at Kragen, and they said they do not carry Sea Foam....
