    Glow gauges...?

Just curious if anyone knows if this is the right one to get for the VX.

AND if so, is this all I need or are there more parts I need?

Don't think this one would work for the VX--the warning lights, at least, are configured differently than the ones in the VX panel

youve got to piece together from a trooper and a rodeo i think.. kenny did it in his and it looks great (i think that there was a prob with the temp gauge or the fuel gauge.. dont remember though, youd have to ask him, if you search for his posts/gallery you might find something.. maybe he'll chime in

Yes, the 99-02 Trooper is the "best" face to get. The 94-95 Trooper set is no longer available (I used this one to blend in the gas gauge and temp gauge) YOU WILL ALSO NEED TO ORDER the power transformer to power the gauges. D1 zone sells these too, they're generic.

    A few quick comments:

    - These are flimsy sheets that need to be adhered to the face with a little double sided tape.

    - you will need to cut the trip ODO out of the speedo face.

    - the antiglare coating is pitiful as it peels and bubbles off if not careful.

    - the turn signal bar and gear selector are clear with no colour lens, so you will either have to keep the old green/red/amber lens behind the white face, or go to colour led bulbs (I tried to put coloured plastic with little success) - other wise you just get bright white turn arrows or P, D, R, etc...

    - the lower status bar line up on the white face is not even close to the VX order of lights (I mean, you could rewire pretty easily the order of lights, but again you would need to make colour lenses behind the warning lights. You can also see the warning text on these cheap white faces (whereas on the black bar -or more expensive white faces- the text or image is hidden until it lights up)

    - The transformer squeals/whines on high glow, a bit lower whine on medium setting.

    - The TOD white face is not even close to the VX TOD layout

    - I've already melted two transformers! My last one I bought was from D1 Zone with a variable dial (good option) and I improved it with a 0.5Amp in-line fuse on the power wire. Hasn't melted yet ... But they are cheap transformers and may flicker.

In the end, the look is cool enough to warrant the work.

I also just bought another face set from D1, and will be re-doing my gauges a bit better and I also plan to remove and replace the antiglare coating so it won't peel or bubble. I also plan to do a write up on the re-MOD next month with photos.

In the mean time there is more info in this thread:

    For information:
I picked up an expensive $100 set of white face gauges for $10 in a clearance bin (for some older Ford Ranger or something) just to see what the difference is in the $100 set and the $0.01 set on ebay. There is a big difference! the expensive ones have 3M adhesive backing, they are thicker, cleaner text and graphics, very durable anti-glare coating, and most impressive is the integral colour lenses behind the "ABS", "CHK ENGINE", etc.. text - the text is also invisible-white until it is illuminated.

I'm very tempted to try these:

Expensive with a better transformer, but all indications so far is that the face construction is similar to the ebay ones....

I saw those, they are cool too.
But I like the numbers and graphics to glow blue and red like the ones we have.
On those, the whole face is a solid glow- a bit boring.
