A little VX pamperin' this week...

I’ve been a good VX dad this week. Since my Proton is now my daily ride I needed to catch her up to speed with some service and attention. She got spoiled:

• Cleaned EGR valve removing carbon build up and replaced EGR gasket
• Cleaned throttle body removing carbon build up
• Replaced fuel filter
• Lubed chassis
• Replaced transmission filter
• Flushed transmission fluid with RP Max ATF
• Flushed power steering fluid with RP Max EZ
• Flushed TOD/transfer case with RP Max ATF
• Changed front diff fluid with RP 75W90 gear oil
• Changed rear diff fluid with RP 75W140 gear oil
• Flushed cooling system and added RP Purple Ice
• Replaced fuel tank sender unit to fix dancing fuel gauge (didn’t fix it tho)
• Changed oil with RP 5W30 w/ Mobil 1 filter
• Replaced PCV valve and grommet
• Repacked front bearings
• Flushed brake system
• Replaced brake lines with Independent 4X braided kit
• Replaced rotors with R1 Concepts drilled/slotted rotors
• Replaced brake pads with OEM pads
• Lubed window tracks with silicon spray
• Installed PIAA Super Graphite windshield wipers

She’s purrrin’ and loving it. Man it feels good knowing she’s all set…

How about the brakes? Flushing, new lines, new rotors and pads? I'll bet they feel great!

Well I was thinking of things I should do to try and refresh the truck but it looks like I have a nice starting laundry list, hope you don’t mind if I borrow your list.

I think she runs like new, indeed. However, the only thing I can compare it to is when I bought the Dragon at 11k miles (never had a *brand* new VX). Shifting is better/smoother, she purrs and sounds better (prolly from EGR work)... things are good.

Just wish the sending unit in the gas tank fixed the dancing issue. In fact, after the new unit was installed the dancing got worse! Can't figure that one out...

Got to keep most of the old parts as my service tech said they are all in good condition (rotors, brake lines, sender unit, etc.) - so most of that work was just preventative and/or upgrades.

Did the new sender unit come complete with a new float in the tank?
I always thought that the dancing was due to the sloshing fuel in the tank and whatever buffered the fluctuations (springs on the float or electronic signal dampening...) stopped working. I'd still look at the measuring and sending units, not the gauge itself. yet.

Good luck with that. Anxious to see the fix. (mine also dances)

Hardly a sugardaddy. Although, it does help that I have a tunnel under the house that goes to Mexico. But keep that between the two of us.

It did run a bit spendy, but worth it for the long haul IMHO. Still not done, as I can't stand my VX stock... However, the other stuff will have to wait a bit as I recover from this little stint. I'm on the 'fast track' to get her up to speed. After all, Moab is only a few months away... :_drool:

On the fuel gauge front: The sender unit is a complete unit with float/sensor and everything. I got to keep the original as the service tech says it's in perfect shape (only knowing this AFTER taking it out). Give me some time and I'll post a picture of it.

Here are some pics of the fuel sensor with float they replaced in my tank. Again, service tech said the sensor was just fine, but only could test that after installing a new one:





...kind of interesting. I had no idea this is what they looked like. Just wish the replacement had fixed the gauge dancing. According to WILLY, the next logical place to look will be a screw on the back of the gauge itself!

Actually - the unit is static, and the metal arm w/ float moves up and down on a pivot attached to the unit.

However, you might be saying the same thing - I'm not quite sure... lol.

Man! I just replaced the transmission oil / filter, steering oil, and oil change (Royal Purple) and was out-of-pocket $250.....just like that!

I need to change the serpentine belt and replace brake pads....

Where did you get your baby serviced? Dealership?
