Hendrik, you should follow Nazrat's first suggestion - change the springs as well as the shocks. The stock springs are very, very stiff, and so the shocks are very, very stiff to dampen the motion of the springs. The two must be in balance to achieve a good ride.

If you just change the shocks, you will get a softer ride, but it will likely be too springy and bouncy. The VX I bought had the original shocks removed and softer shocks installed in their place, and it jumped and bumped around so much on its original springs that it was awful to drive on bumpy roads.

If you switch to a softer spring and a shock that is well-matched to it, you will get a softer but well-controlled ride.

I still have my original stock springs. I replaced the soft shocks that the previous owner had installed with Bilstein B46-1738/1739-H1 shocks. I was able to compare them directly to the factory VX shocks on a local VX, and found them to be about the same stiffness as the originals.
