Nice Job...I like the looks of that (click, save pic 4 future reference)![]()
With this 3 week (off and on) project, I had hoped to fix what I thought was an error in design on the red/black interior'd VX's from the beginning. To me, it just didn't make ANY sense to have RED door panels that touch BLACK back panels and a BLACK dash. The Carbon Fiber look was a nice touch, but after I turned the panels black, I saw the doors needed some more red... so I searched high and low for a color match (using my broken tailgate knob as a color guide) I finally found the closest match at Car Quest... (I'll post the brand/model later). The paints(black and red) are designed to adhere to plastics (no primer). After the paint was fully dry, I sprayed a good couple coats of high gloss lacquer clear on each part. The red I wet-sanded w/2000 and buffed to high gloss... the Black I sprayed a coat of FLAT clearcoat to match the dash's sheen. WORKED PERFECTLY! The lacquer clear gave the strength they needed... VERY chip resistant. This WILL NOT go back to red. (well, it better not at least!). I left the front part of the carbon fiber alone after realizing that the CF comes in contact regularly with the side of the dashboard when the door is closed...
All in all, I gotta tell ya... I'm SUPER Happy with how this turned out! Raque Thomas, I agree with you... I think this is what the factory should have done in the first place![]()

Looks great. I am adding this to my list now too. Just never enough time to get all the projects done. Well done.
Beautiful!
I really like the blue! Great job!
