Performance yes, looks no! That thing is and has always been butt ugly... The Blazer,Jimmy platform is also weak..
To each his own though..
yup definately would be fun but I wouldn't want a lowered ugly Blazer.
No, but I did consider an F150 Lightning. In 2001 I told the dealer I would buy one if he could get it in yellow. No deal. Was the Typhoon available in yellow? How about a Subaru Baja with the WRX drivetrain? FX-45? Nah, I'll keep my VX!
A perfect example of trying to make a silk purse out of a hog's ear (just gotta love those homegrown witticisms) Even with great acceleration, I can't imagine someone who's otherwise excellent taste in vehicles includes that fine RX, would also include that fugly GM. No offence intended Batman, I just can't see those two vehicles peacfully co-existing in the "I want that" center of one brain. :p
My $.02, Ldub
i personally dont think it looks all tat bad....sure its a box. but so is teh trooper(old one)
Back in the day, that was a radical look for SUV's. My friend had a white one, and it was a blast to drive, especially as the the turbo really gave you a push when it came on.
My butt is more attractive than that.........
Less performance than a sports car.
Less function than an SUV.
Less attractive than an Aztek.
What's to consider? :)
How long would that last on an Off-Road Trail ?????????????? LOL
I had owned two S-10 4x4 Blazers back in the mid 80's,great little rides. Nope...I'll stick to my VX
John
That is pretty much an apples / oranges comparison to me - low slung street truck vs. capable 4x4 off road truck.
The vehicles I also considered at the time of purchase were: a late model 2 door Blazer 4x4 (most likely a ZR2) a Ford Escape Hybrid (ok, dont laugh...it was only on the list for about 2.5 seconds) Jeep Liberty (probably would have gone that route if the roof line was 3-4 inches lower so it would look like it has a "stance", not just a tippy box on wheels, or the VX.
Corey
By turning up the boost, we got my pal's to run low 13's. It was fun blowing off Camaros and 'Stangs, but it was never meant for off-road.
On a wet track it would BEAT the corvette ZR1 handidly in the 1/4 mile!
On a wet track, a Lotus Elise would probably beat a Bugatti Veyron. :)Quote:

I wanted one back when they came out.and would own one today if the right one came along.AND YES I WOULD PARK IT NEXT TO THE VX !!!!!! shawn
I love the Syclone, and Typhoon was almost as cool. I actually test drove a used Typhoon before the VX came to the states and I almost bought it... on the second test drive the turbo acted up and I got scared off. I was so close! I would still LOVE to have a Syclone; maybe one day. I have had two 4-cylinder 2WD versions of it and they were both a blast to drive!
No. No Typhoon...but I've been driving a '99 Lightning since '99.
Wow, people have pretty strong opinions about this thing. Back in the day (haha) this was a mean looking, serious performing SUV. Please take into account what the competitors vehicles look like and perhaps the Typhoon doesn't look all that bad.
I thought it was a much better buy than the Syclone simply b/c the Syclone payload was ridiculously small and why have a truck and waste the bed space if you could hardly load anything in it??
Unfortunately, the few people that have Typhoons either seem to have ragged theirs out or think it's the second coming. So, you're left with paying through the nose for something that has not-so-great GM quality or buying someone else's worn out street racer.
