Nicely played !

was about to post on this, guess we made the list once again, lol. They said that the Vehicross was to set a new trend of SUV's, but nothing yet. Ummmm, well i have to differ on this one. Yes nothing else like it out there, but i have to say that the VX did sure start off the creation of all the sporty SUV's out there and even cross overs. Land rover, Infinity, Acura, Nissan, well pretty much all SUV making companies. So for who ever wrote that article, they can go sit on a duck, cuz they are sure full a lot of Yack Yack. <----- (Edit: BTW, Not in a perverted way.) :p
Just read the article and had to pop my head in and see the chatter about it.
I miss my VX. :(
I never saw that convertible Axiom (page 4) on the street!!!
I might like ugly cars, because the 1958 Edsel is not all that bad, as well as the Aston Martin and Plymouth Valiant.
Have to agree that the Aztek was an atrocity...But I never liked the VW bettle either (newer styling is better)!!
We should start our own poll of what cars we think are the ugliest!!! Not only in the US, but other countries!!! I.e, my first car was a Ford Corcel Ghia II. I hated it with passion! I also dislike the PT Cruiser. What about the Renault Fuego? I also think the Nissan Cube should be in the top 10!
The author of that article simply didn't do his research and used the wrong adjective.
Rather than Ugliest, it should have read Funkiest.
...at least that's how the couple parked next to my VX in the Wal-Mart parking lot yesterday described mine anyway...
It's obvious such authors are simply trying to get our goats out of jealousy. Maybe this one is still drunk from St. Patricks Day and hasn't yet realized the no one looks good permanently wearing green. ;)
Have you guys read this from the New York Times:

...."the VehiCROSS was supposed to be an example of the future of SUV styling. It's 14 years later, and we haven't seen anything like it since."
Yeah, No Kidding! As much as I have searched for something similar or better, I just haven't met any success outside of Concept cars or things WAY outside the realm of affordable like the RallyFighter. I'd buy a 2013 VX in a Heartbeat if it existed (unless they effed up the styling...)
I wonder how many times this basic article gets lightly rehashed/rewritten each year? Every time I see one of these threads I think okay, which 10 of the 20 or so same car pictures are going to be listed this time? And is it Yahoo Autos, Edmunds, Cars.com, Jalopnik, NY Times, or somebody new? Gotta say this is one of the weaker ones though, particularly the critic they selected:
The guy's company literally copy/paste's other peoples' reviews into a single place. If that's the definition of an expert they may as well have picked any random subscriber of Motor Trend magazine. Here's an idea: select someone who's actually studied design and worked in the auto industry and let them pick and comment. Then maybe we could get some real commentary on how designs influence the industry and why some succeed and others fail, rather than tired quips and bizarre comparisons (Tylenol?).Quote:
They were selected by Karl Brauer, CEO and editor-in-chief of TotalCarScore.com, an online review aggregator for autos currently on the market
so ugly i want one...
This is what I was wondering when I brought up the dates from the comments section. The article itself is dated 2013, but the comments are 2009? Seems the "author" would at least have had the good sense to also do some cutting when he was copying and pasting the other stuff for "his" article.
The 2 door Rav4 predates the VX ;)
I take pride in liking/owing controversial cars:
Fiero
Triumph TR7
VX
Ford Flex (wife's car)
If someone doesn't hate it, it is BORING! ;)
Id drive the heck out of a 2 door axiom roadster!
Axiom is a pretty obscure choice. It really wasn't all that outlandish... Why would this "author" select TWO Issuzu's? I suppose he was being somewhat different, by not picking an AMC Pacer, another perennial on such list. :)
Possibly. Keep in mind that the VX concept premiered at the Tokyo Auto Show in 1993 and the RAV4 wasn't for sale in Europe and Japan until 1994 and the US in 1996. You could argue that for the RAV4 to be for sale in 1994 they must have already been working on it before they saw the VX concept in 1993. But the first generation RAV4 was based on the Corolla so that had to speed development you would think. What is definitely possible is that the cladding was added to the RAV4 at the last second in response to the VX concept and to give it more more of an offroad appearance.
Bottom line is it may not be as clear as you might think based solely on the US production start dates.
I'll just put this here and walk away...

And don't forget about the future ugliest car...

Its hard to find cars ugly to me, I see them ether boring :_shrug: , or very unique :_huh: . Like paintings in an art exhibit. Some you just glance at it and keep walking, others you just have to stop and really take a long look.

Is it weird to look at that list and think "I would drive that"? Except that horrid Pontiac van. I would love a Marlin (not because of the screen name), I think it is awesome! My parents had an aztec, very cool car. Had the tailgate with built in seats, rear facing speakers, rear radio control, center console was an ice chest, tent and airbed built into the back. Very comfortable car.
I'm reminded of dialogue in a scene from the movie "Drive" with Ryan Gosling when his mechanic boss had prepared a getaway car for him......"And there it is, dropped in 300 horses, chevy Impala, most popular car in L.A.....NO ONE will be looking at you!"
Always remember, when the Porsche Speedster came out in the fifties they called it a "bath tub". Now you can't buy one for less than a hundred grand.
nissan joke..ops i mean JUKE http://www.google.com/imgres?hl=en&s...5&tx=138&ty=77
Remember folks, the VX won the Japan Car of the Year Award in '97/98, so how ugly could it really be? Or who is Yahoo's supposed expert? Are they better than the entire Japanese Automotive Press Corps? Probably not.....
Citroen has to be the king of ugly cars, they've produced a bevy of ugliness over the years. This one has my vote. The 1971 Citroen, ugly coming and going.

Japan Car of the Year is decided among all Japanese cars during that time period. That means all Toyotas, Hondas (including NSX) etc. So, yes they are biased only in that the voting is limited to Japanese products. I'll add Japan is one of the most tasteful cultures on earth. they are savvy great design spotters.
All I can say is that I get a lot of compliments from people about the VX. I've had people take pictures of it, ask where they can buy one, even offer to buy mine. Most common is "ITS A 2001? I THOUGHT IT WAS NEW!" Funniest were two young girls staying abreast of me and I could see the driver's lips mouthing, "What the hell is it?" They were so busy staring at it that I thought they would rear-end the car ahead of them.
I came in here just to post a pic of one of those, you beat me to it. Ugliest car ever.
A duckmobile!
