Initially I Had a Pop Up Glass Sunroof installed on my 2001 Kaiser Silver VX. I had many Problems with it Leaking Because of the Silicone. I brought it Back to the Installer and Paid the Difference and He Installed a Power Glass Moonroof and Replaced the Headliner with a Black Color instead of Grey. Total Cost was About $900 which was a Good Price, normally it cost a few hundred more!
There have been a few people that had professionally installed power sunroofs. From what I have heard the cost is usually around $1000. No VX was ever made with a oem sunroof. As far a I know.... I have the only convertable VX (custom). I searched for other drop top vx and could not find any.
i would love a power moonroof but i have always worried about them leaking
Looking into this too...
Vegas has so little rain. Not much for me to worry about.
Mine was installed by original owner and looks factory. Also closes automatically when ignition is shut off. No problems at all
There's another convertible VX that was made to match the VX-O2.

Although, it's a bit different from your convertible. :yesb:
OMG that's gorgeous!
I wonder if the Porsche 914's fiberglass targa top is anywhere close to the lines of the VX. It might be a candidate for modding to fit.

Not my pics. I've always wanted a sunroof but I heard it lowers the headliner by a couple inches. I'm a little concerned about losing head room. :yesgray:
I own a VX with a professionally installed Webasto electric tinted moon-roof (installed by previous owner), and it has a matching gray replacement headliner. The glass panel slides within the interior headliner (not outside of roof-top) and has a sliding sun-shade for total block-out. It looks and operates totally like a factory OEM moon-roof. It never leaks in full down-pour WA State rains and closes automatically when the key is turned-off. You can go to the "Webasto" sunroof website at http://webastoshowroom.com/ and contact a local installer near your home for more information on model/cost, etc. I estimate the cost to be $1000 -- $1,500 for this mod. I would not even consider going the leaky-n-cheesy route of a manual Pop-Top or T-Top. Go with a professionally installed electric moon-roof with replacement interior headliner by Webasto brand or forget the whole idea.
My electric moon-roof mod is without a doubt my most favorite feature of my VX, and I can not imagine ever owning a VX without it. I don't trust my side door windows for fear of them maybe getting stuck in the down position, so I only use my moon-roof/sun-roof for summertime ventilation.
Here is some more information for you:

Enjoy.

i would be more intersted in the really big sunroofs they have out now that cover most of the roof
I was thinking about having a large moonroof installed from that support beam that our VXs have behind the seats in the roof back to the spoiler... But if you're going to be doing any wheeling, then you'll have to worry about leaks.
does anyone have the kind where the glass lifts up & over the roof? this would save on the headroom issues. like the one that came factory on the 2g eclipses...

FT-- Forget the outside the roof type!!! They do not allow enough open-air space when the glass is retracted, as the frontal edge portion of the glass blocks out the open space as it is tilted outward. What you end up with is a small sideways sliver of a sunroof opening and a unnatural looking VX.
I'm 6'1" and I can attest to you that there is no shortage of headroom in my electric moon-roof equipped VX open or closed. The Webasto electric moon-roof is the answer to your prayers!!! Go visit a Webasto dealer near you home and talk to the manager for more specific details.

Outside the roof models might bump into roof accessories as well...
I just went to a local Webasto installer and he quoted $1200 out the door for installation of a Hollandia 730. He said that I'd have to either remove or re mount my roof basket back a bit to clear the tilt function.
I don't know. $1200 for a sunroof is a bit steep for me. Right now I'd rather do a 5 speed swap for that amount.
This is hilarious... I'm biting the bullet.
I just made the appointment it have the Hollandia 730 sunroof installed on Monday!
I'm kinda nervously excited...
pics when they are done, inside and out.
Dropped VX off at the shop. They are installing the sunroof today and/or tomorrow.
I feel like a family member is in surgery!
Well, they are kinda taking the top off... LOL
lol...
I stopped by the shop today to check on progress. They showed me three problem areas of rust under the roof rails. Not terrible. I bought some Extend and they said they would clean the rust up and spray it and seal it for me. I'm not ready to tackle that type of project just yet.
The sunroof is coming along great. Actually, it should be done right now. Hoping to pick it up tomorrow morning!
When I was there, they had the hole cut out of the roof. Amazing quality of cut. The coolest thing though... I thought the sunroof was going to be kinda small. Actually, it's pretty big! It takes up most of the flat area (non-ridged) of the roof. I can't wait to see it completed.
The tech said he would take pics for me along the way. I'll post them if he did.
We'll see how it goes tomorrow!
So I was looking through your gallery and found this pic. Is the clearance issue related to your basket or your fairing? It sure looks like you'd have a hard time hitting the basket, but I could definitely see where your fairing would be in the way.

Hi, no, that basket was sold a long time ago. :)
I now have the stock rack with a Rage basket.
We are on our way to pick up the VX!! Fingers crossed!
Do you still have the fairing in place? If not, is he suggesting you would need to elevate the crossbars or just the forward part of the basket?
No, that fairing is not being used. (Wow... I just realized I'm WAY behind in updating the forum on my mods! LOL)
I'll have to do an update thread. ;)
Soo... I just picked up the VX!
The sunroof and workmanship are phenomenal!!!
I am so happy!
Now I see what Riff Raff and others meant!
The tech did take pics during the install. I'll post those, plus some of my own soon. I'm at a Dr's appointment right now.
Actually, I think I'll make my own thread for it, with a link to it on this one. I hope I didn't thread jack this one too bad...
In most non-popup sunroofs the headliner has to be lowered some to allow the glass to slide inside the roof.
i was only kidding i knew what he meant :winky:
Oh lol...
