Just got a few exterior items wrapped in 3M Di-Noc Carbon Fiber Vinyl Wrap

Hello all just wanted to share some pictures of a few items wrapped from Wu Wraps Automotive locally here in Seattle. More pictures to come I found these from his facebook page. (http://www.facebook.com/wuwraps)


Planning on starting another tread with before and after pictures of the VX I bought last month and the modification I made since taking over to make it my own.

Looks super sharp David! Have to see if a shop around here does that work - anybody know what the differences / advantages / disadvantages are of a vinyl wrap vs. the watercolor transfer method?

(P.S. Did that guy in Boston ever get back to you on the Borbets?)

Btw, did they give you any sense of how resistant the wrap is to road rash (rock chips, scratches, etc.)? Wondering (a) how much would this cost to do the whole cladding, and (2) is it durable enough to considering doing on the lower half of the vehicle?

Wraps can be applied without removing any body panels and it appears to be a much cheaper route than "dipping" and without the hassle (dipping requires a huge bathtub size water tank for removed body panels, and I'd really like to see someone dip the "roof" of a vehicle LOL). Plus you can get different colored CF wraps to match the same body color.

durability but the use in Nascar isn't much to go on. Given the tapping and such that goes on most body panels are swaqpped out regularly. In addition most tracks are pretty debris free as they are swept more often than your average road. These do look very nice though

So it seems like durability will be a question on the horizontal hood insert. :( Too bad because those pieces look AMAZING.

I think, whether wrapped of dipped, you'll have some form of durabilty issue one way or another. However, applying several coats of clear coat to either application, will probably help increase its longevity to a point. However, not sure whether there'll be any reactions with clear coat and a dipped part.

Wondering if applying a clearcoat with UV inhibitor will stop or slow down any issues?

(Off topic) But getting back to your earlier question the seller of the Borbet never got back to me untill I sent a email through ebay asking again if he would consider shipping the Borbet through greyhound or another shipping company. He want now $400 (If no one bids) plus shipping here his email response below.

"If it Is not going to be a hastle I will ship I have a couple of interested buyers on the local craigslist but if it does not sell by end of auction I'm sure we can work out something. I just called greyhound the only problem is the nearest shipping center to me is 1hr drive away they gave me a quote on the phone of $334.88 including fuel surcharge of 8.50%. Another shipping company is Shipnex.com quotes $187.77 from my zip 02780 to yours 98055 have to ship in 2 packages because weight is 260 total and that's over maximum weight limit."

So $400 plus another $187.00 : $588 total shipped to Washington

Is that for the rims WITH the tires? If you don't want them, see if he will take them off for you. The loss of weight and size will dramatically decrease the price - I shipped a set of Borbets from Virginia to Chicago earlier in the year for about $150 I think, and surely GH would be less. True it will cost him to have the tires removed, but then he can sell them separately and make more money.

If $400 is for the rims and tires, I'd offer him $300 for just the rims.

Maybe that's what the 3M DI-NOC Protection Film DPF 100 product is? I'll have to find the data sheet on it...

You have to clear coat a hydrographics print. Its just a thin layer of paint that is applied to piece so if no clearcoat then you can scratch it off, not to easy though

I'm looking to get them together wheels and tires mounted saving me the trouble of buying new tires also playing extra $$ for mount & balance. I'm currently rolling my stock 16" w/ 285/75R16 Nitto Grappler AT at the moment. That's correct $400 with wheels and tires I'll let you know If I end up getting them

Good luck! Too bad the guy won't honor his original price, but $400 for good rims + 75% tires ain't terrible by any stretch.

What kind of pricing are we talking to have Wu wrap the items you had wrapped? Package deal or what was the pricing for each part if you don't mind me asking? Thanks!

I was of course his first Vehicross customer he charged me a package price for everything. I was quoted @ $215 but mention he kinda undercharge after getting through with the work but still honored the price.

I spent 4 hours with Mark doing more work to the VX today pictures will be up shortly

Here the new pictures with the following work done I decided on getting my exterior lights tinted with a light smoke film over the blackout look. Many newer cars has the same appearance also went with yellow on the foglights I wasn't sure at first but Mark mention I could always come back to redo them in smoke free of charge If I change my mind. I'm still on the fence about them but I'm leaning towards keeping them yellow

Ha ha... I'm thinking about how I spent money to "de-orange" the lenses on my front end, but I really like your amber foggies! Maybe it just stands out because it's so unique, but no matter what, you have really found a great look with this combination, pwndawg! :thumbup: :drool2: :thumbup: :drool2: :thumbup:

Now put sumpthin' on that cladding before I drive up there and do it for you, mister! :laughing:

I got a bottle of TC Black Fusion I'm trying out next weekend on the cladding

As always, I was just being a wizeazz, Pwndawg! Your beautiful VX is polished and the tires are treated - so I suspected cladding was next. I can't wait to see the next round of photos and to hear what you think about TC Black Fusion! :thumbup:

RickOKC- I treated the cladding with TC Black Fusion a few streaks but for the value and easy application (20 min to do the whole car), I would buy again. TC was applied 2 months ago

Love the carbon wrap on the seat base, but I think the cladding wrap looks a little weird from the outside.

Yeah it does look kinda odd just having the bottom cladding but after I'm done with the exterior it should flow all together and no I'm wrapping any other cladding pieces. If anyone thinking black vx with sliver cladding all around this isn't the vx.

I'm looking at getting some of interior console pieces wrapped in 3m cf and pillar trims done probably next week

Seat bases was about $30 or $35 can't remember (both sides) and $20 for gas lid

i love it!

When it's all said and done, do you now think it may have been easier to have just had your whole VX wrapped? Kidding!! :bwgy:

Mind asking your guy how much it costs to get into that business? I'm thinking there'd be a decent market for it in my area too.

The business is kinda a side thing for him he does everything from the house mainly advertising through the local Craigslist, word of mouth and car forums. He currently in dental school at the moment and when he has free time he wrapping to help pay for tuition. Feel free to email him directly wuwraps@gmail.com for any questions you might have and where to order the material . I do know he has about 2-3 different site he normally order from depending on the material he using for a customer.

The wrapping looks fantastic and 3M are the best materials so no worries about durability.... The additional protection is an added bonus plus you can change it when you get bored ... I mean when you fancy something different... rather than change your VX..


I am dead envious... If I could find someone doing that quality of work over here I would be writing to Santa.....

Agree with just about everything.......except the door sills.:nob::nob::thumbdn::thumbdn:;puke:

They might look good when the primer coat is covered up.

Of course, that is only my opinion, and we all know what that is worth.

The door sills is a personal choice I was planning on getting it wrapped in Cf but wanted a little contrast with the Brushed Aluminum giving it a modern look interior wise least to me. I don't expect everyone to agree with me which I totally understand but all opinion are welcome.


Next on the list (small items) :
Interior kick panels and those grey little handles on each side of the roof

The DiNoc is how so many of these supercar owners are turning their rides "stealth" without destroying a quarter million dollar car. It's fairly durable from what you read on other sites and such. I'd imagine if you decide to keep it on you may need to get it redone eventually but some materials I got from them listed the UV resist at around 3 yrs. If you know anything about 3M products that probably means at least 6 yrs of looking good even with sun.

The upside to this vs dipping is you just peel this off and wash. It doesn't destroy what's underneath.

The cool thing is it's actually textured as far as the carbon fiber materials go and really has a nice hand to it.

I'm from Seattle meaning it's cloudy an average of 226 days per year =D

With winter here again, seems like a good time to pull some pieces off and send to him. Prices seem very fair too especially considering how the end products look! I'll email tonite a see what few pieces may cost like side mirrors, grille, rear half moon if sent as a package. Looks very cool!
