After looking at tires I can see that the Nitto 285/60/18s are very expensive. So is there a special place to get these tires that is a little cheaper. A guy on Ebay is offering a set of 4 for $275 delivered. That's the cheapest I've seen so far

Daaaaaaaaaag, Ebay has the Cooper Zeon (set of 4- delivered) for $475.00. This is my second favorite tire. What should I do???????? I am so cheap. I can save $250 by going with the Cooper. But will the group respect me? Will I be able to sit around and talk tire talk with the Nitto guys? Or will they whisper, "hey, that's the guy who bought the Coopers". So many decisions. I mean we are in a recession.

So what are you sayn???? VX Kat just bought a set. They look like a BAT (bad --- tire). I mean I do need tires. And I am very cheap. And these tires look pretty cool.

Look at the numbers in your orig 2 posts.
Then look at my humoros reply...:smilewink
Yeah, my jaw dropped when I read that $275 in your first post, considering I just paid $730 for my 4 Cooper Zeon LTZs (with m/b + AZ tax)....so we're all waiting for the correct number in post #1.
MAKE SURE you're talking about the Cooper Zeon LTZ, as they make like 5 different Zeon styles and the LTZ is brand new.
I'll post pictures of mine when I get them installed. Should be Friday 6/5. :(Guess this means the guys won't respect me....and will talk behind my back...oh heck, they already do that! :laugho:
$475 for 4 Nittos seems inconceivable to me......sounds too good to be true...
M/B is around $15/tire, so the $475 + $60 is still too good to be true.
I picked up my 265/75/16 Nitto Grappler AT from Discount Tire online for 508.00 shipped to my door, which I thought was a good deal...
It was $475 for the Coopers. The best price on Nittos was $725
I have a set of Terra Grapplers right now and I'm going to need a new set soon. After some poking around on the internet I have found them for as low as $160 per tire, but that price may be for the 285/60/18 120S version. My question is, what the heck does the 120S stand for and why is it cheaper?
in tire lingo the 120 is for the load it can handle ..120 is around 3000 lbs per tire...the S is for the speed rating ...S is for 112mph after 112mph the tire looses its shape and gets warped.
PepBoys (at least in AZ) has the Cooper Zeon LTZ for Buy3 get 1 free, price ~$161/tire (PLUS m/b ($60), + state sales tax. Tire Rack (my longtime fav) doesn't sell Coopers.
I used that price as my "price to beat" and ended up paying $173.82/tire + sales tax, but it included m/b plus:
~rotate & balance 10 times
~free flat repair (with plug) lifetime
~one free alignment ~$70 value (where we live, alignments are needed frequently! None of the chain or private shops around here offers lifetime alignment deals like we had in Dallas)
~free flat change (even though I have roadside assistance like AAA)
These extras made it worth paying the $173.82/tire price vs. PepBoys $161 + $15 m/b as they weren't apples to apples just on that per tire price, since m/b was xtra at PepBoys and none of the other bennies listed above.
Doug (somebeach) you may want to checkout PepBoys prices & deals on the Coopers.
The 120S load/speed rating also made the Coopers a tad lighter than the TGs.
Just my .02 cents worth of info
VX Kat you saved me I bought the Coopers off Ebay before you said to make sure they are theLTZs. I bought the XSTs from a place called big_a_tires. I had already paid thru PAYPAL. I sent my wah wah to the guy and offered to pay a fee to have the tires not sent. This guy refunded me and wouldn't take any money for his trouble. What a great guy. Makes me have faith in people when I get treated like that. I had lost faith for a while after all the Dougie comments but I'm getting over them
I was almost over it then you wrote this. I may never fully recover. If I had gotten the BATMAN sign on you wouldn't be talking this way. I am Somebeach and I have attitude....just don't have tires yet. I remember the good ole days when members would welcome a new member with a gift like a set of tires. Oh to relive those days
Hey! I never got my free set of tires:_wtf::confused:
WTH did I miss??????
it says I'm a zoid...what's a zoid
I have a set of four tires from one of my Hotwheels VXs that I could send you ;) Oh, and they come with the rims built in!
I get fussed at every time I ask a question. I do searches and can't find what I'm looking for. Like how to get a neat picture beside my name when posting, or what is a zoid. I mean no one wants to be a zoid do they? So I will make sure my little zoid behind does his homework before asking a question. I'm just sayn.
I dont think anyone is fussing at ya!
Just answering the "Zoid" question..and adding some helpful hints about the search feature.
Best way to get rid of the "Zoid' tag is to become a site supporter...
...for a mere $20 per year.
It helps keep the site running...so questions can be answered...
..and you can get that neat picture by yer name ...

Okay, now i have accepted I am a Zoid. I can live with that. And thanks for the help on how to search. You see when I search something like lets say window repair, The search sends out info on Moab, Pacific trips, chinchbugs, vitamin deficiencies, and even Viagra. So I might find what I want or i may end up buying something that my wife says is not allowed in house. And as far as the picture by my name, your loss cuz I had a good one.
Ok, now I'm concerned. I do a search on "window repair" and I get 3 pages of thread links but, none that have anything to do with chinchbugs, vitamin deficiencies, nor Viagra. Albeit, there are some obscure references within the results but within the results, on the third link was a reference to you thread on window repair.
If you are having troubles with the site, please contact me and I'll see what I can do with fixing it.
Here are some links that may help in explaining some of your questions.

Sorry Moncha, I was just kiddin. I just sent you an e-mail. And I really haven't seen any chinchbug articles. You are a very good interrigator. I confess.
And I'm gonna have a Petticoat Junction flashback here...:rolleyesg
This is Uncle Jo
And he drives the Offroad Ho
To the junction...
Moab Junction!
you know it was set in a small town called Hooterville...lol
Jo would like that
Sooo.....what is the real difference between the Nitto Terra Grappler model "285/60R18 120S" and the "LT285/60R18 E 123S" that they list on their site? (these appear to be the only two sizes available by Nitto in 285 and 18 that will fit the VX).
The 123S is a little more expensive, but the 120S seems to be an extra load size which you'd think should be more expensive....confusing?
Two Words: "TIRE WEIGHT"...........is the major difference. The Nitto - Terra Grappler in 285/60R18-120S is heavy, and the LT285/60R18-E-123S is heavy "er". NITTO, USA does not list the specific weight of their tires on their website and that is extremely unfortunate. You will have to send them an E-Mail and ask for specific tire weights.
On the other hand, VX KAT's choice of the new radical-looking COOPER - Zeon "LTZ" is just a baaaaaaaad-assssssssss tire and only weighs 49 lbs. Get the brand new COOPER - Zeon "LTZ" in P285/60R18 and never look back. Less Weight + Less Expensive = More Happy!!!
Are we there yet mom?.....I feel like that's what I want to call and ask the tire shop..."Are they there yet?" No, Suzy, we told you, not until Friday 6/5! But it will be one week tomorrow...where are they coming from? MARS???
ARGHHH! :freek:
I don't do "be patient" well! :laugho:
the "e" load rating makes the tire consierably heavier.. and considerably stronger when it comes to the sidewall.. so if you do hard offroading, the E load rating is probably best.. just looking for good all weather traction for on road.. you could probably get away with the lower one
i just noticed that all of the nittos listed were s speed rating.. are there higher? pretty sure the stock duelers were H speed rating, dropping two levels will probably affect your handling a decent amount
WOHOOOOOO!
Decided to call & check with tire shop...WOHOO! They were in (and had been since last Friday:madp:...they told me 6/5), anyway, they are BIG & MEATY! None of the shop guys thought they were goin' fit...even I had my doubts once I saw how big they looked!
There were some Nitto TGs (Giant 325s!) in the shop so it was great to see & compare both side by side. The Cooper's are a bit more "aggressive " looking, nice square shoulders, really cool tread pattern, will bit into dirt etc..really well. Filled them to 40 psi, but Riff says to take 'em up to 50 per sidewall.
Showed them the pic where to rim cladding, they trimmed it off & everything went smooth! Now no rubbing, no problem, AND no more shimmy (as they discovered all my weights had fallen off the old), I now have a much better ride quality, smoother over the ruts and potholes etc on the dirt road, AND, the biggest factor...I can still get in it!!!! That 1.21" increase is still "doable" (but I sure couldn't get it any higher than that). So I'm totally jazzed!!!! I'm in love with these tires! If you have any doubts, DON'T....get them!
Will get it cleaned up and post some pics tomorrow.
