Postponed so Lisa can bring her new baby home & get her in "drivng shape"
I'll try.
Come on Texas people.Where is everybody?
"try" is the weakest word in the human language. Basically you are leaving every possible back door out of commitment avaliable to yourself, because at the end of the day everyone can try and fail at anything, and yet still say that they "tried". Yeah once I "tried" to fly to the moon, I only jumped 7ft up but I still tried.
:smilewink
Seriously though why can you not bring the squatter, er I mean your VX? I mean what a better time to log some great miles on your way to TX? It is only like 20 hours or so right? ;)
Sorry, I'll try to do better.
Actually, I was just adding a little to what I had written above.
Already did a 13 hour drive to FL this year. Wifey would definitely have some colorful words for me if I signed her up for a 20+ hour drive.
I did the Sleezville, LA to Dallas & RTN years ago. Seemed like friggin forever.
OK. Seems first decision has been made by majority- looks like Austin is the hub. I know that, if it stays that way, Cary & I will be hotel bound (Batboat Hotel) on Friday of whatever weekend the group agrees on.
Im there.......
...as to a date. The Longhorns have a football game at home on 11/8 so hotel rooms might be an issue for those of us coming from out of town and staying over Friday night. Might I suggest the following weekend (Fri 14th/ Sat 15th). I've kinda grown to like the Marriott so I suspect we'll be staying there again. http://www.marriott.com/hotels/trave...-austin-hotel/
And Tone- thank God there's no need to help rebuild my son's Flugtag glider in 100 degree temps like the last time I was in town. For those who didn't see my Chupacabra son Jeremiah's feeble attempts at birdlike status, after Tone & I lent construction advice (mostly the former by the way) the night before, here was the end result from that hot day last year in front of 40,000 people.
That day was best summed up by Charles Dickens: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times". Damn hot is what it was.

I tried but it looks like I'll fail (Ryan was right - hate it when that happens). It looks fairly certain that I'll be in Austin on 18-19 Nov but I have to brief some brass on my program on the 17th here at Belvoir. I'll keep it a maybe in case plans change (they usually do).
Gotta work that weekend, so it doesn't look like another road trip is in the cards... for now. Cece & I still want to make it down there to visit. Also, I have to put the Texas pit crew to work installing Tone's hitch on Cece's VX... Have fun!
Like I said - plans always change. The whole friggin trip is off now.
Julian, the meet is in Austin, go ahead and confirm that you are coming already, so we can meet up at your house, you know if that is ok and all, lol......
I cant believe this many are maybe attending! Yeah, I will have to for sure stay in town that weekend!
Oh and iamironman.....we have been known to not behave....well ok, ME, but I am grown up now and can behave! LOL your family will be safe with us
OK guys - I get the picture - I'm gonna miss all the fun. It was bad enough when I admitted Ryan was right - don't rub salt in the wound.:)
iamironman- no frat party dealings here. A few social beer/cocktails (I'm a lightweight at best) and general visiting. The past gatherings have been adults but we've never had a problem with inviting children; it's just we've (to my fading memory) never had any attend. Boredom might be an issue however with the wee ones. For the most part prior Houston meets have consisted of meeting at my place, messin with & lookin over other's rides, VX caravan to dinner, and farewells. It's always worth the trip from where ever you call home as Gill, who hails from Chicago and holds the traveling record, can attest when he made the run south to join us years ago. Now we're just taking the Houston Fall Meet on a roadtrip to our amigos in Austin (a meet is not a meet without J & R in attendance so we're headin northwest). Bottom line-friends are always welcome.
Let the attendance list continue on................................
Man! I wish I had more days off, and a LOT more $$$. I'd love to head down and hang out with y'all again! I made the first trip because I missed Moab... now I'm missing out on the Texas meet because of Moab. Well, at least it's because of conflicting VX reasons. Still I hate missing out. Now, any of you thinking of going... GO!
OMG Tim G is going!!! Everyone has to go otherwise it will be years before we see him again! Seriously, Tim, glad your making it out!!
Tim I am so glad I saw you on the road yesterday, I am even more glad you visited the forum again and are coming to the meet in Austin, can't wait to see you and everybody else there, should be a good time.
I don't know when everyone is driving from Houston, but would it be out of the question to start a convoy? I will be staying at my sisters house on Lake Travis in Spicewood just outside of Austin, what is everyone else palling on doing?
Cary & I will be leaving Katy and heading out for the Renaissance Hotel by noon(ish) on Friday.
I was thinking about doing something at my house.....not used to entertaining, but I have a good view and a great offroad course type thing everyone can try! I am just further northwest of Austin by about 25 miles.....
:( Pout pout pout... I wanna goooo!!! Well, have fun everyone!
Alright so here is the dealio.....I was thinking head out to my house around 5pm from Austin, it is about 20 miles NW of Austin, but a nice drive. I was thinking head up the 'back way' to my house...teehehehe....and have a drink and some light easy finger food. (I still need to try the 'back way' myself as its been awhile) Everyone let me know your thoughts....maybe we could leave from Tones since that is where 'maintainence' stuff will be happening.....
sorry...yes Saturday 5pm leaving Tones and heading to Crazy House......lol
Is anybody doing anything on Fri PM?
I would think who ever is in town at that time, we can all meet somewhere for dinner!
Sorry everyone, I will be enroute to Chicago to pick up new VX, and thanks tons to Tone for helping with so many things through out this!! And future thanks to Tone too since we will be busy for awhile....
Great to hear about the new ride Lisa! I am going to call for a cancel of the Austin meet that weekend for obvious reasons. We'll try for some type of Christmas Gathering perhaps. I know VXCrazy well enough to know it'll take her that long to get the new set of wheels up to her "specifications":_steering
I am still planning on being in Austin Nov 14th through the 17th at my sister's lakehouse, anybody still want to meet up? It will just be me there they are out of town so there is room for a few people :) They have a grill a dock and area to fish/swim from. Or we could meet up for lunch. Just throwing out ideas, anyone?
Ryan, we will need to try to squeeze something in....hopefully that friday afternoon I can get my old vx brought out to my parents house, they are letting me store her in their garage, that will be emotional for me....like moving around your dead dog. but maybe after that we could do something north closer to where we both will be! I will firm up next week when I know more about when the tow truck guy can do it. And yes George, you all know me too well, window tint is first thing, than lift and tires......going to pull the 7"panasonic that is in the new one if anyone wants to buy that, and also waiting to make sure its got the 18" wheels, they look like the 16" to me, but anyone wants to buy those as well. Mshardeman, Mark, I think wants just the rubber as they are new nittos....if I can get them to him before he needs em.
'Grats Lisa on the new ride.
I'll be hooking up with Ryan on the 17th in the morning to hand of his diff drop brackets. Prolly won't have much time this trip but if anyone is up for drinks on the 17th or 18th in Austin, I'd love to meet a few more enthusiasts.
Tom
Tom,
Are you flying into Dallas on your way to Austin?
Peace.
