I turned 300 miles on a single tank finally. When I filled up I put about 19.402 gallons in. This is about a 100 mile upgrade from a year ago.

I get a little more than 320 per tank, Highway Miles.
Quite a few more when you factor in the larger tires.
GPS puts me at about 5-6 mph faster that indicated.
Around town milage, that's another story.
City milage is about 200 miles per tank, for me.
What is the calculations for larger tires?
I am running 265/65/16 = 31.6 tire A/T
I used not be able to pass up 220 if that. I remember the days when 79 miles was a half a tank. All becuase of fuel pressure regulator.
i probably get like 200 a tank or maybe a little more, i am always speeding i spend more time going faster than 80 than under lol
I can get about 175 around town with larger tires. :mad: Dont know about highway as I dont get on them much for full tank drives.
I get around 290-300 per tank and I regularly travel at 80 mph or faster (interstate) - the mileage goes down around town, but it's still in the 270-280 range, and I'm supercharged.

Wow, how did you DO that? I have a stock 99 VX w 100k on it & getting roughly 10 or 11 mpg. My 10 year old Land Rover gets BETTER gas mileage if you can believe it! :eek: I
Am putting new engine in this VX now since old engine seized up. Now I'll have a VX with 0k miles on it! I hope it helps.
If anyone has ideas for one major way to better MPG from their VX, please pass em on!

Changing my fuel pressure regulator solved it all......I reached 300 now becuase I drive more highway miles than before.
Im lifted with larger tires it can be done.
:eek::eek::eek:How much was the regulator and how hard was it to put in? This sounds exactly like my situation now, I would love an extra 80 miles a tank!!!!
I edited this from the only time I've commented on tires;
I also run 265/75's on 16 with no trimming, Not sure of the Dia.
Avon SXT mud terrain
Great tread, great high speed, good grip. Look good too.
they show very little wear. EVEN after putting over 45,000 miles on them!
Adds 5 mph over indicated speed
Some "soft" rock crawler compounds will not last long on the street = $$$$$
Not triing to sell anyone, but I've been extreamly happy with these tires.
The 4.30 something gears will never get us to 30mpg, so oh well!
I'm getting around 350 (got 370 once by letting it run down to fumes) per tank full with 285/60/18 Terra Grapplers. I've never figured out the percentage that my tires are over the stock tires so I can't tell you how many actual miles per tank that is.
Taller tires = higher final drive ratio.
Or, taller tires is like having an overdrive gear.
Someday, I will get Tone's speedo correction kit, for the correct speed, and correct shift points.
It shouldn't effect Highway milage, but it may help the tranny work easier.
I can easily get 378 miles on my trip odometer. I just fill up once, drive 189 miles, then fill up the tank again without hitting the odometer reset switch. Drive another 189 miles, and BAM!
378 miles. Sweet!
Oh, you mean 300 miles on ONE tank?!? Never mind. :bwgr:
15 Miles per gallon x 20 gallons = 300 miles on a tank if I wait for the low fuel light to come on. In the almost nine years I have had my VX I would say my mileage has alway been between 12 and 17 be it on the highway or in the city.
so I'm guessing I'm not the only one getting less than 15 mpgs? I'm usually filling back up at around 220-230 miles on the trip. Practically all highway, all stop and go and without a warm up period. no engine mods, no oversize tires all stock.
I used to feel your pain.
Ascinder - It was easy once you get past the allen bolt on the back of the chamber area. I think it was etl - erik that cut down an allen wrench to fit in that tight spot. Do a search and you will find a thread I and he has on it. The screen in my reg. was torn and I was running too rich. I would assume this is the case with most.
For the past 4 yrs I've always gotten 320 miles before my fuel light would come on around tight corners and a fill up would be a bit over 18 gals.:rolleyes: For the past month or so I've suddenly dropped to light coming on solid at 275 miles and fill up is 20 gals..:eek: At first I thought maybe it was due to the winter fuel, 10% ethanol, but I never had that issue in past winters. I haven't really had any of the signs of the fpr going bad other than an occasional rpm surge or decline. I did notice the other morning when I went out to warm it up that the exhaust is pretty dark. Sooo,, I'm appealing to the brilliant minds of the vxinfo as to whether ya'll think the fpr could be my source of drastic fuel consumption?
thanks for all the help in the past, current, and future... It's well worth the $20.00.
Jody
Hey Jody,
Funny, the same thing has happened to me recently - the light would come on between 17 and 18 miles. Now it's coming on at 20 so I've had to adjust and make sure I get to a station quicker. I just rolled over 100k. Fuel consumption hasn't changed.

11mpg/220 a tank avg
S/C with 93octane
285/60 tires
But it only gets about 3k miles a year on the odo. And since it sits in the garage much of the time, who knows how much of the gas actually stagnates and evaporates. I am sure it would get better mpg were it used daily. Considering I only have to gas it up maybe once every few weeks, you wont see me complaining, heh.
{put on dweeb hat}
Not sure if JHARRIS got a straight answer to his question about how tire diameter affects speedo/odo readings.
C=circumference
d=diameter
pi=3.141598
C=d*pi
All you really need to know is that circumference is directly proportional to the diameter and that your speedometer and odometer sensors are just reading tire rotation related to some point in your tranny. Sooo ... if your tire diameter increases by 10% both your speedometer and odometer will read 10% less than actual (your speedo reads 80mph, you're actually going 88mph and your odo reads you went 300 miles, you actually went 330 miles). I'm running 33x12.50s and TomTom tells me that I'm exactly 10% off on my readings.
{take off dweeb hat}
True however if the liquid did not fowl the plugs they are rated for 100k. Too rich = new fpr.
Update new week.....
I did a bit of mud/snow slinging this past week so I assume that is the 20 mile difference.

My usual is to drive at least three days to/from work before looking to fill up. (Work is ~~47 miles one way.) Last week I tried it a fourth day, the "gas light" came on before I got to the staion, and I got a little worried, but I made it. I got about 370 miles, put in 20.7gallons. (I fill up the neck. I won' stop filling until there is gas to the cap.) Still stinky mileage, but you do have range.
By the way, I'm all stock. Didn't run the air beyond defrost.
LOVE THE "V".

Here's what I was talking about...

i just drove yesterday to chicago after filing up my tank and i noticed that the light came on when i only drove for 130 miles! what can i do to make this mpg better! imagine 130 per tank! what am i doing wrong i do drive really fast but still thats using a lot of gas!
my life goes by your quote lol
"FASTER,FASTER,FASTER...Until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death!"
Pep - change your Fuel Pressure Regulator. I used to get around the same out of my tank.
Do a search here its $70 There should not be any ranges. You might be lookin at fuel pump.
i get 350-370 mpg as well, i and i have 132,000 miles on mine, it's all in air pressure and changing new small parts as well. well i think it is.
mine varies with the seasons....I got 16mpg the last fill-up which is typical for winter for me. The worst I got this winter was 15mpg but that involved a few times of just idling in the drive-way for 20 minutes each time because she set for a couple weeks. Typically in the warmer months (spring,summer,fall) she gets 17 to 17.5mpg mixed driving and SC'ed.
My all time best was traveling to Vermont with cruise on she got 23mpg there and 22mpg back. I've never come close since.....drats!
I filled up just about COMPLETELY (~21 G's) on Monday--drove up to Riverside, over to Irvine and back, then back to San Diego.
Burned close to 3/4 of the tank, and had to fill up again today, but...
I had rolled 354 miles.
Not sure what the exact difference is either from the stock size wheels (not drastic), but around town I usually get 290 miles a tank.
I just tested my VX. Filled up, reset mileage, and I got 357 miles on one tank. I probably could have gone another few miles as well, the light was not on yet.
Bart
That’s nuts. I probly could get closer to 250 then I am now but my gas gauge is messed up so I get nervous when its close to empty.
