YUM! I have some friends who restored a 1968 Firebird a few years ago. The black paint job is so over-the-top perfect and glossy that it's hard to photograph. Once they finish their '78 Trans Am SE, they will probable convert the '68 from "original" to "slightly modified." They rarely drive the '68 because a black car in Oklahoma isn't really drivable without air conditioning during much of the year (oops). Plus they kept the inline 6 with the 2 speed Powerglide transmission. People often look at it say, "I bet that does one heck of a burnout" and Edie's response is "Uhhhh.... no, it's almost impossible to break traction." They have a spare 400 & the appropriate hood stored and waiting for some TLC. :)

do surfboards and bicycles count?
Keep that OHC motor in there! You can hop those puppies up pretty good, throw a 4spd behind it and shock alot of people. Not sure if the company is still selling products but there was a stroker kit out there for the Pontiac 250ci OHC motor, they make camshafts for them, headers, intake manifolds etc. I loved my old 250, plus I like that "WTF" look when you pop the hood :bwgy: They had provisions for cross-bolted mains, a super stout bottom end stock. I want to build a turbo version, there is a supercharged Sprint 230ci motor on the web, minor mods (all things considered) and making 411hp!!

He could have went with a better blower, efi, better camshaft would EASILY gain some power. Just shows the potential of those engines. I think it'd be neat to shove one in a 3rd gen :)

Well, finally ditched the 300GT. It's a shame really since it went to Pick-A-Part but could've probably been saved (just got frustrated with working on it). The list is now:

Osram Nightbreaker headlight bulbs

T-Rex racing spools
Pazzo Racing brake/clutch shorty levers
Michelin Pilot Road 2 tires
The bike averages out my owned vehicle mileage to about 38 mpg lol. First tank in the VX got 15, all short trips around town so far.
I've had my VX now for just over a week and have polished the headlights, fixed the driver window slow/seal issue (widened the track and lubed with silicone spray), added a small piece of felt to the larger recess in the center console (in front of the "cup holder"), cleaned the Dragon air filter, mounted my cell phone for nav and music access, and had just a blast driving it. Also, every day someone asks what it is (it is debaged) and some have been very disappointed that they can't get one. All have been impressed by its condition and styling. Next weekend I am taking her up to my brother-in-law's cabin in the mountains north of Silverthorne, CO. My first chance to take her off-road!

I would like to paint or otherwise redo the front of the hood. I've seen some nicely done jobs on the pics on this site. Need to think about that some more. If you're in the Front Range of Colorado and want to meet up for a VX meet/off-road run, send me a message.
It may not line up very well with the black painted around your headlights, but this may be an option:

See post #6.
So I looked at the Magnabra thread, the clicked through to a thread about a custom painted bra...and was looking at my VX (formerly Bimati's).
Maybe I'll just buy another can of the same stuff and redo the black, complete with pencil/paper clip digital measuring device :)
I have a very dusty, black 1992 GMC Typhoon (0117) and a ho buncha junk.
Currently building a 12'x9' insulated cabin/workshop in the back garden in which to finally rebuild the 4.3L GM V6 turbo after 4 years which is all still in the kitchen!
Outside the garage is a 2001 Phat Red/Black Smart Fortwo 599cc and the Vx.
In a disowned neighbour's garage one away from mine, is my 1997 MkIV Supra TT VVTi Tiptronic in 1B9 silver/grey paint which is for sale in the U.K.
No way could I afford to keep a woman happy with my many and various toys and hobbies.
I built 2 high end gaming pooters and 7 custom T/E-Maxx monster trucks after I left the last one!
She wanted to go out for a meal every night and resented cooking, even for herself! Apparently it demeans them in some way, or so they've been brainwashed to believe by the leftist politically 'correct' media.
Had me washing up and driving her about like a chauffeur. I think it's the English upbringing where they are read fairy tales before bedtime as children and actually expect men to turn up in shining armor on a frickin' Unicorn!
I'm not bitter about it though.

I also have in addition to the 99 Ironman VX, a 2011 Tundra TRD Sport, black, downgraded to 18" rims instead of 20"s, a 2006 Impreza STI, fully built, my valve covers are stock. The wife drives an 05 Boxster S.
Down sized to two cars. This is the reason for my VX purchase. Needed something sporty with awd that can haul stuff and pull a small trailer.

Yeah, that looks very "adventure-ish". I hear about folks riding from here to Mexico, here to Alaska. I can't imagine that! I've only gone a few hundred miles from home.
Nah a little closer to CO than that, :) first was down in Nicaragua, the second was in Belize near Placencia. We bought our VX after coming back from a year on the road. If you feel like reading the story of the trip we've got it up at our blog here: http://2wheels2boots.com/leaving-is-...merica-week-1/
Fun fact: The Old Grey Mare (motorcycle) has more miles on her than our VX.
HOLY MOLY :freek: Reminds me of "Lois on the loose" by Lois Pryce. Saw her speak at the 1st Overland Expo in '98 or '99. She gave a speech and slide show on her trans-continental expedition on motorcycle. She did the Americas -Alaska to the tip of South America-, and also did trans-Africa.
http://loisontheloose.com/book.html
Your bike looks even more prepared for that type of journey than hers! Great website too!
Thanks! We certainly brought a bunch of stuff with us but we had two people on the bike rather than just one :) I envy Lois for being able to take such a light bike which handles a lot better in the rough stuff.
We've met Lois a couple of times as well while she was on her book tour for Red Tape White Knuckles (London to Cape Town) she's a really awesome woman.
We had plans to head down to Ushuaia (southern most city in South America) but ended up living for an extra 6 months in Central America instead. Get vehicles across the Darien Gap is rather expensive so when we decide to do it we plan to fly into Buenos Aires and buy a vehicle down there, hit Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil, Bolivia, and Argentina before selling it and flying back.
Thought I should chip in!
