Awesome Ashley!
meowmix-
dont be worried at all about doing easy trails. Once you are in MOAB and you see how we run it, everything will make more sense to you.
Daily, there are different groups of people who choose trails that they would like to do and we all break up our separate ways. Some choose difficult trails and others pick easier or more scenic trails.
There are plenty of people who go out to moab in a stock VX with no issues at all (although most upgrade their VX after their first trip to moab ). And on the majority of the difficult trails there are always bypasses as well, which its always fun to watch the big boys try the big stuff :naughty:
Just always feel free to ask a veteran or trail leader if the trail they are doing that day has bypasses, we generally know how the trails pan out and if a stock VX can handle it. If you feel uncomfortable, feel free to come ask me, i dont consider myself a veteran, but i have been on most of the trails that the group does. My name is Jack.
Just a thought Ms Meow...
If you can get to Moab on the 16th, you will be able to join in the VX "MASS" run on the 17th.....:_steering
Its a great way to get comfortable on an easy trail....meet / greet and bond with everyone,
and hook up with others of similar experience and 'ambitions' for the rest of the week...
...and of course, have a brew on the "Stoop" after!
Look fwd to meeting you.

That's a group shot of (L-R) Me, Jo, & Scott...hangin' on the stoop getting "stoopified"...:_beer:
This is what Justin (Zeus) looks like...:dan_ban:
Meow, you won't need to worry about finding the right line. Just find someone that is similarly equiped and follow them. Some hood examples are Sue (VX Kat), Mark (MSHardeman), or Scott (Moncha...aka the boss man). They all have fun on the trail but tend to be a little saner in choosing their lines. Also at any point if you don't feel comfortably just give a holler amd there are many of uw that will be more than happy to spot you through a difficult spot. You will be amazed at what even a bone stock VX is capable of!
Lol...good work VT; I ought to get plenty of responses now, lol. Can't help my lengthy posts sometimes -- I'm a writer. I like to write stuff, anything; sometimes too much stuff. Though I'll try to mind my gigantic paragraphs of complete BS from now on... :laughy:
Thanks everyone for the comforting words, I was already feeling mild anxiety about going offroad, though I feel somewhat better now, lol. If others can do it in a stock VX, I can do it in a stock VX ;Dy;
...I will definitely be there for the mass VX run on the 17th. I'll probably leave Vegas the evening of the 16th, and Moab isn't a far drive.
Lol at your representations of yourself and other forum people Dub; I especially like that little dancing banana. I can't wait until I can legitimately use that thing in a post one day...that will be a satisfactory day.
I'm sorry to ask such a silly question....but could someone please tell me what this "Moab" thing is? I just bought a VX 3 days ago and seriously look forward to meeting other enthusiasts and learning more about the "obsession".
It's Moab, Utah, a beautiful area of natural rock formations, sand, water crossings and other beautiful scenery which is a mecca for off-roading enthusiasts. Arches National Park and Canyonland State Park are right next to it. A lot of the rock is often a smoother surface rock, thus it's called "slickrock", and it's kind of a cinnamon orange color. Check out my gallery or Moncha's there's about a 500 pics from the past Moab trips. Many Isuzu enthusiasts go in May, I think this year it's about year 11, 12 or 13.
It is the greatest thing on earth!:bwgy:
Okay, so actually it is a gathering of Isuzu enthusiests that enjoy good company and fun offroad trips in Moab, Utah.
Here are a few threads to paruse that might give you an idea...

The best I can do, is reiterate a long ago thread that I started...it's all about what Moab means to me, and to many of the others whom I have become as close to as any bio brothers &/or sisters I was born to...:yesgray:
You can't possibly imagine...till you've experienced that which we call "ZuZoo"...

but Dubzzy, what about me?http://www.getsmileyface.com/new/cats/dizzycat.gif http://freesmileyface.net/smiley/manga/japanese-049.gif http://freesmileyface.net/smiley/manga/devil-026.gif (I couldn't decide which one) and VX Crazy http://freesmileyface.net/smiley/manga/japanese-068.gif http://freesmileyface.net/smiley/ang.../evil-0014.gif
Yup! I stick real tight to Mark and Scott's rear end,http://freesmileyface.net/smiley/laughing/lol-049.gif both are excellent spotters!
Although all 3 of us do have slightly larger than stock tires, so we have a wee bit more clearance. I believe mine was about 1 1/4" higher with my 285s. The first year as fully stock, I did get some scrapes both front and rear, so ya gotta keep in mind that Billy's idea of difficulty :freek: and normal people's are vastly different. This is a "bumpy" road for Billy....http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/data/500/DSC_6147.JPG
The thing about the dancin' nanner is..., um, er....ya see, um, um, Justin actually did look like that! :laugho: (dang, tried to find the pic with no luck...DUB, can you find it??)
They are all just "bumpy roads"...
...just some of the bumps are a bit larger!:bwgy:
oh, this wasn't bumpy at all, just a little sand and a puddle... :laugho::laugho:

Seriously?! Those trails look terrifying...the rocks are taller than the skirts of my VX! I might scratch her! O noes!!! Maybe I should get a lift before I head to Moab...but I don't know anything about lifts yet, shoot! I need to research mods before I do them...much to think about. :_thinking
...and that banana suit is fking awesome! ;Dy;;Dy;;Dy;

Trust me, it is all about the right line. With a good spotter you will have no problems. I will have you crawling over boulders like a pro.:)
[QUOTE=Triathlete;228130] In all fairness though Billy, sometimes no line can overcome gravity....this is the one that flattened my bull bar tubing and scratched the rear cladding coming out of it...two years in a row.....but I'm ready for her this year...no bull bar, and a superbumper on the back! Seriously MeowMix, the pic doesn't do it justice...full brakes applied and you still skid down this hill, and plow into the rock, it's awesome! This was my first year, all stock. Now was this on Hell's Revenge or Fins & Things?http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/da...5/DSCN1665.JPG
Really? You just have spare springs laying around? I thought there was more to lifting than springs. I'm used to lowering...know all about it. Though when it comes to 4WD vehicles, I'm just plain dumb. I know zero about lifting...but I trust you know what's what, lol. I'm in so long as my short little butt can still hop up into my seat :righty: I'll PM you for the details. Oh and you'd better believe I'll be making some cocktails...so be ready to do exactly what's stated above. ;Dy;
...and Sue, that picture is unnerving. I'll probably have nightmares tonight, lol. I think I'll bypass that rock hill thing thanks. :laughy:
Here's a post I found were I gave some other quick pics/examples to give you kinda feel for some of the trails, rocks, obstacles, views.

I am surprised no one else has warned Meowmix yet......DO NOT FOLLOW A CERTAIN KAISER VX WITH A MISSING SIDE BAR AND A ROOF RACK......I REPEAT...DO NOT take ANY lines he takes........:bgwb:
but Dubzzy, what about me? (I couldn't decide which one) and VX Crazy
Yes Larry.....what about Sue and I????????? How could you leave us out?
Read the RED letters in this post...:rotate:

MeowMix, like others have said (thanks Billy) I tend to drive like a little 'ol grandma going to church on Sunday when I'm offroad. I DO NOT want to scratch my baby, but it does happen. Vicki (my VX) does have a few trail scar's that she wears with pride (chicks with scar's are HOT). I am lifted, but I still take my sweet time over most obstacles. Don't let the pictures of the terrain out there spook you, although I have to say that at the beginning of the first trail every year, my knees are usually knocking, but once I get back into it it's just so dang much fun. Also, like others have said, you will be amazed at what a bone stock VX can do as long as you TRUST YOUR SPOTTERS. They are outside the car and can see things that you can't so even if it doesn't look right from inside the VX it IS right so just go for it......slowly. Go easy on the skinny pedal AND the brake pedal.
Oddly enough I WILL be in Vegas from May 12th - 15th for a soccer tournament. I won't be driving the VX out, but if you want to meet up for some debauchery then the team I play with is the one you want to hang out with. OOF!! I'll be heading back to Grand Junction, CO to drop off the rental car and pick up the VX, then head right back to Moab LATE Sunday night/ early Monday morning. You can follow me to the Moab turn off if you would like on Sunday afternoon.
After VTMav's editing of your post I'm a little reluctant to post this, but I have a room at The Stoop (The Red Rocks Lodge) that you are welcome to crash in (I'm a total gentleman......I promise). Actually since I won't be there until so late Sunday night you are more than welcome to check in early if you would like a place to take a nap, grab a shower, or sleep off anything that might happen on The Stoop on Sunday afternoon. I can let the Red Rocks know that you will be checking in ahead of me, and it will allow me to make sure that the room is open when I get there. Last year I pulled into town at 1am and there was no key on the front door of the Lodge so I had to wake some poor sap up to let me into my room.
NOW who's writing a novel?
Jeezzz, that Mark dude sleeps around, last year he bunked with Lisa, now he's trying to hit up MeowMix.....'cuz Lisa is hooked up, tangled up, and all that with another VXer and he's her #1 snugglebunny....:dan_ban:....way better than just "bunkin'" with Mark.....:p
jus' messin' witcha gang!:laugho:
I be giddy with Moab euphoria.....and it's very contagious!
I stayed real close to Mark's rear end last year, and he takes great lines, looks almost like it's in slow motion, it's so fluid and gentle, he's awesome! Took all these pics from right behind him!

WOW, thanks Sue.:( Better not let me spot you this year.... I might "accidentally" spot you into a rock.:goof: KIDDING, it's all in good fun, and yes the giddy Moab fever is contagious. I can't sit still knowing that Moab is so close.
I was raised in the South so my momma taught me right. Ask last years bunk mate; she came through, relatively, unscathed.
On another note: MeowMix, lifting a VX at The Stoop is a time honored tradition. A few years ago Dub and Jay lifted my VX right there in the Red Rocks parking lot and I haven't looked back. Good times, good times.....

Dang Sue, now you're making me feel bad for my hatin' post.:p Thanks for the complements. I always feel like I'm just banging around off-road.
Those are some great pics. I'll need to get them from you at some point in time.
KASHIA - ^yal here on the site. I wonder how she's doing.
What can I say; I gets around. Women are so much better to bunk with anyway (had a couple of female room mates). Not as much belching or other bodily noises as most dudes.
Hi meowMix...
here is the PM I sent you.
I'll post it here too..so that others can chime in if I forgot anything....
=====
Hiya
Its really fairly easy, and as you can see from the pics put up...it can be done at the Red Rock Motel "Stoop"
The basics are..
1) Jack up rear of VX, take out standard springs, put in the 912 after market springs....not a huge job.
This will lift the back by about 2.5 inches
2) Index mark the torsion bar adjuster bolts, crank on them equally using the index marks as a reference....
...keep cranking until desired lift of front is achieved.
3) Book the Vx into a local tire store and get an alignment done.
Thats about it!
If you are going to do this, a good plan is to start spraying your torsion bar bolts with anti-seize NOW, and a few times before you arrive in Moab.
As for the effect on other parts, experiences vary.
The only real issue has been CV boots tearing. This happens because the boots become accustomed to a set angle, and the lifting stresses them.
It does not happen all the time.
Cost wise...About $150 (springs) plus the alignment charge.
Hope this helps. I will be bringing the springs anyway...
...so you don't have to decide until you get to Moab ... but do spray the T/Bolts just in case!
I'll post this on the thread too...so if I have forgotten anything others can chime in.
ATB
Jo
WOW! I missed a lot here!
Meowser, since you mentioned you may have tires in need of replacement and that you may be game to lift your VX while in Moab... do it all at once! :) Wear out your current tires on your way to Vegas and into Moab then let the gang at the stoop get you lifted. After that you are free to pick out some larger meats, get an alignment, and we can trim your cladding for you where needed. Hit the trail in style and blow everyone away with your newly fashioned VX when you get back home! :yesy:
BTW, on your way to Vegas if you need a place to crash in Salt Lake lemme know...
