Thanks for the reply and I will since this seems to be a thing one has to live with owning one of these with that eng! Yes I have seen to look for some things other than the normal used car no no's. Isuzu VX parts being rare is a worry. Am I on the wrong track thinkin this can be a daily or twice weekly driver?
Mine is a daily driver...and yes the fuel economy is not great (I average about 16 mpg) and fortunately I don't use much oil.
Be careful until you get use to the lack of visibility and learn where the blind spots are.
Just got back! 500 miles one way for a big disappointment! Drivers door sagging, wheel inner chrome pitting & peeling in sheets, inside smell's, engine oil changed but almost off the dip stick with I guess a few test drives, brown and sludgy, brackets under hood corroded badly... drivers seat ripped, torn, freakin worn out! Eng leaking every where. I didn't get to a test drive. What a misleading dealer! Now am I being naive? Are these things expected/? I'm Still in the market for one that the better half and I can drive back via an interesting route.
Check this out! looks good enough for a 1000 mile drive, check in hand, rental car paid for a one way drop off! Took two days off.
http://www.usedcarsgroup.com/used-20...cn57x817d00281 Let me know what U would think Oh VX GuRU's
Why would a dealer have a car looking so good on the outside, and not even bother to clean the inside?? Plain stupid.
Having said that, apart from the drivers seat, there didn't look to be anything that would not clean up.
Sagging door can easily be checked to see if the hinges are worn (fixable), adjustment out (fixable), or frame bent (run away).
Smells can be fixed unless there is a dead body in there.
Wheel chrome pitting is expected on the OEM wheels.
Probably do better looking at one advertised on this site, because most of us here look after the vehicles.
Have you seen the VX pre-purchase check list on here??
PK
x2
That's the same list I recommended in my post #122. It's quite comprehensive and you can ask those detailed questions by phone or email to a long distance seller to give you a better picture of the condition. Several of the problems you found are on the questionnaire.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the guidance, suggestions etc Yep read the check list, but the items These folk neglected to disclose was normal stuff for any auto. They even lied about when it was repainted. Fresh! Just an insult. I'm giving More of a warning to others I guess. I think they picked it up @ auction and found they were over their head. Anyway I will be more than happy to purchase one from someone that discloses what I can expect! Seems like these are where they get used the most snowy, sandy, areas. Not too close to flat FL and California isn't a easy drive back. This is a invite to anyone, what ya got or any U want to help a VX bud to sell. Thanks
Daytona... Your saying you went to that dealership in Milton, FL? I called them offering 5k out the door and of course they declined. I live two hours from there.
The one in UT is in great shape. It belongs to forum member arcobarco. If you search the For Sale section you'll find it posted there.
We have members that do drive across the US to Moab every year with no problems.
Like any used vehicle it it's been maintained and in good shape then driving it anywhere is not a big deal.
Just got my first! It seem to be n good to very good shape. It seems to use about a 1/4 quart every 1000. but i've only had it a couple weeks soooo we'll see. about as bone stock as it gets.(gonna change that!) So here we go!

Hello again' back on the site with a new windows 8.1 system thanks to Bill! Sucks!! thanks for putting up with me and all the wimpy stuff i added. Still looking but realize these aren't going to be a cream puff when for sale. any pointers are welcomed.
I wish the guy that owned my VX before me would have came across this forum; when I checked the oil, there was barely any oil on the dip stick. I hope that this guy ran (slick 50?). This will be a good test on the durability of an engine that has been run low on oil for who knows how long.
Oh yeh, Here's my ebony, 130K, got new wheels & tires on the way home from buying her. Spent 5 hours debadging, buffing & waxing. need to address the hood insert, and looking for a longer lasting solution for the cladding. Window tinting is also on the list.
YAY Ebony......

So today is the first time I've even heard of a VehiCross. I am shopping for a small, off-road capable SUV. I have seen some rave reviews on these things online but wanted your opinion. The dealer is asking $9500. It's a 2001 with 126000 miles. Is it worth the cost? Do these perform well off road? What do you think???

I bought it BTW!!!! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Hey everyone! Here's a pic of me and my "new" ebony VX (with red/black interior):
http://www.vehicross.info/gallery/da...28-cropped.jpg
I got her last weekend from a guy on Craigslist here in the Phoenix, AZ (Scottsdale, actually) area - he purchased it a month prior from somebody up in Flagstaff, IIRC. Prior to that it was in Texas I believe. She has about 138k on the odometer, but still runs like a champ (drive-line seems pretty solid).
Right now, she's in the shop. Biggest problem is safety related: No running lights or dash lights - so I can't drive her at night. All other lights work great, though. I'm also having the shop do a complete and thorough look-over, and repair anything amiss.
The transmission fluid is an ugly brown - so that needs a definite look over (though it shifts great - no slipping or anything weird). I also need new front-end ball joints. I may also need a new timing belt (dunno when it was last checked or replaced). Maybe brakes. Maybe a bunch of things...
Anyhow - I fell in love with the VX about 6 months ago, and I thought I would never find one; every one that came up for sale was bought before I could get on it. While I was test driving this one, the seller had two other people asking about it (one was going to fly in from Florida!).
I got very lucky, I think.
I got a bunch of mods I am planning on doing - but nothing to detract from her looks, and I am going to try to keep everything reversible, or otherwise hidden. I don't want to detract from her value. I really think the VX is on the verge of being a collectible, but I didn't buy her for that reason - really, what I wanted was a daily driver with 4WD and a tight wheelbase - I was looking at Wranglers and such - then fell in love with the VX when I first saw one - she's the sexiest vehicle I've ever owned.
Yup, I recognize the rims and the lift Andrew!
I do believe that IS the Ebony that used to be up here near me (for at least a year or two). Haven't seen it around the place the guy worked, so I figured it went somewhere. IIRC his name was Colby.
Here is a quick Google images link to the search term... "Vehicross Moab"

Hopefully this answers your question. :)
Black 1999 #0616 here. Details in the EBONY thread.

1999 Ebony VX. High mileage and needs some work but only cost $2500 and actually runs very good. OME 912, Ranchos and Mickey Thompsons are on order. Am located in Albuquerque, NM for now.
Fun group trips when you get your VX trail ready.
Moab is May 13th - 21st

Silverton dates have not been set yet but I will post a thread when we set the dates. We went in September last year and it was cold and snowed the last 2 days so we are thinking the end of August would be better like we did in 2015. Here is last years thread.

I know I have posted this elsewhere, but I think keeping the forum as a historical location on the internet is important.
I just purchased #0209! Sorry, still excited. No pics yet, but I plan on creating a build thread anyway.
I hope we get to see it sometime.
Removing the ancient/brittle vinyl wrap. Real PITA. I am taking pictures as I go so I can post some.
