I might be able to help out but not sure when i'll have time. Maybe milehighvx can help since he lives in Castle Rock?
I still need to fab mine up and can probably make an extra set for Jo if needed.

I would like to camp at Portal as usual, arriving Sunday the 15th and departing Sunday the 22nd...Jack if you are getting a group site can you reserve it through Sunday? Oh, and Portal has like 6 showers if you didn't know.
Well I just did some number crunching and its going to be around $440 each way for gas if I get 19 mpg the whole way. $880 for gas alone! :O I think I might have to skip out on this meet :( are there any plans for a meet anywhere closer to NC?
that'd be a hell of a drive for you to come all the way down here just for that. I'll see if i can get any local volunteers then talk to you jon.
i know, its just nice to have a 'home base' for a day or two when i most likely will have my girlfriend and probably my sister too.
maybe i could take some measurements off of yours sometime, very carefully, build em, then hold em up to your VX just to make sure they fit before i trek em out to moab. What do you think about that???
I could swing down on a weekend and get all my measurements in one day, build em the next weekend, then check them on your VX on the sunday after i build them maybe??

Happens every year...:yesgray:
Thanks for the link (:
That's fine if you want to go to the Red Rock, I'm just saying if you are going to reserve a group campsite, reserve it through Saturday night even if you aren't going to be there that long. By then there will be plenty of people to occupy the site even if you move to the motel.
If not, let us know and Tom or I or somebody can reserve a group site separately.
Sounds good, I expect to be there Sunday.
I will be there! grey first gen amigo :)
sounds great, im still trying to figure out when im gonna be able to get there. i'm starting to think it might be a more normal length trip for me, finances just arent looking to be great.
especially when im trying to get some more body armor put on before moab this year ;) :drool2:
So Jack, have you made a group site reservation yet? I'd like to put the camping info on the Planet.
Made our reservations! I have to work tue 17th so we will be up wed 18th by noon, at least that is the plan. Might have one friend tag along in his FJ. Sue you know about those FJ people...VX wannabees! :biggringr Just kiddin Dave
See ya all there!
We should do "Dubs Famous Blender Sports" on the evening of the 18th...cause ..well...it seems
..it'll be my Birthday!
:_beer::LineWave::_beer:
Should we move the Ice Cream Social to the 18th in honor of Jo's birthday? We could also grill out on the stoop for our pot-luck dinner and just get it all done at once.
Why do I feel like I've read this before?
I'm trying to move the thread... It'll be Groundhog Day for a bit.
The other thread is closed
nah, we'll want to hang on Sunday eve and get all friendly like, so let's do both! Grillin' & chillin'!
1389mi from home, thats 2778 miles just to and from. Thats insane.I get 12 miles to the gallon so thats 231 gallons of gas x 4 bucks a gallon = $924. Ouch. I should just fly out there and be someone's wingman.
12 mpg? That seems low, my old 99 Trooper did a lot better than that with the same drivetrain.
I am driving from Minneapolis, but I get more like 16 mpg, sometimes better.
My VX gets 12ish city and high 13s on freeway with 34s. Bigswede, didyour 99 troop have 4.56 or 4.30s?. My wife's RS definitely gets better mpg than the VX. (maybe the 3.2 has something to do with it?)
We made the trip from charleston, SC to Moab 2 years ago. I towed the VX behind my Expedition. Got somewhere around 10mpg average.
If I was doing it this year, with the diesel F250, it would be somewhere around 1800in fuel. Plus an oil change in that truck costs me about 150 since it holds 4 gallons of oil:( 1 gal rotella synthetic is 23 bucks, filter is 20 bucks) Just to drive to Moab would cost me well over 2K, that doesn't include all of the hotels and whatnot. That is why we are going to the Bahamas next weekend instead:):dan_ban::dan_ban:
My old 99 Trooper had 4.30 gears, as do all 98+ Troopers. It would get ~17 hwy mpg, give or take 1.
My RS gets around 16 hwy, not bad for a lifted Trooper with 35" balloon tires. Sometimes it does better, I got 20 mpg from Grand Junction to Sterling CO on the way back last year. I always get better mileage going through the mountains for some reason. I think the manual tranny helps some, but I have the EPA est mpg sticker that came with it new, and the EPA hwy estimate is only 17 mpg (in stock configuration of course).
I just talked to Portal RV and they don't have any tent sites available at all (group or individual) until May 17th. This disappoints me, as I will be arriving on the 15th.
I really don't want to have to set up camp twice.
I'm kinda sick of Portal screwing with us every year, and I'm thinking of going to Pack Creek Campground. They redid their showers/bathrooms, which removes my only objection to the place. Tent sites are $17.50 for up to 3 adults...anybody wanna share a site (not the tent, just the site) from the 15th to the 22nd?
I just added myself to the list of yes's... expect a Jeep and I will expect ignorant comments. :D
its all in good fun justin :)
Yeah I know... so I just bit the bullet and reserved a room at the Lodge. With no VX I decided not to show for the VX Run but will be there that evening and staying till Saturday. Don't worry, I'll park on the street. :D
You'll park right next to me, MISTER! :D
I think we should get a "wrap" company to make a wrap for Zeus's jeep to make it look like his ex VX!:bwgy:
And you know that jeep thing is welcome at the VX run!:yesy:
HAHA my dad threatened to show up with his Jeep covered in ISUZU badging a couple years ago. Kinda hoped he would! It would take a some serious wrapping skillz to make a Wrangler look like a VX but I'm down! ;)
PICS!! What is the new beast Jay? Did you get rid of the FJ, or is it a dedicated trail rig now?
Reservations made...Red Rock...same room...middle stoop...fun time come soon:smilewink
So when is the VX run? I just might have to show up for that one!
