Original owner 2001 Proton just past 50000
99 Ironman 106,000 still going strong
Nope! I come from the "don't fix it, if it aint broken club". I should qualify that by saying that I did replace the fluid immediately after I bought her with Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. Same with my differencials. I do change the engine oil (Mobil 1 also) and filter every 4K miles. Heat and abuse kills a tranny, so can running it low on fluid. Its a closed system so no outside contaminents are introduced. If it gets hot the oil is designed to change color and will stink! Then a good idea to R&R the fluid but the damage has probably been done anyway by that time. Auto tranny's, engines, and people do wear out, it is going happen someday but I have to smile at the ole gal every morning for her faithful service...so when she breaks I will fix her.
BTW, I owned an Aamco Transmission shop in Huntington Park, Ca. from 1969 to 1974 when I sold it and got into the car wash biz. That is one messy oily business...
My Proton just hit 83k today! So far so good... she needs some love and affection but she is doing great! Minor issues... the parking brake light on the dash panel goes on and off as she pleases, the dimmer for the dash lights doen't work (it is stuck on the brightest setting), but that's about it so far. She is a rescue VX. She needed nearly immediate attention once I bought her. Never been lubed  , never had tranny fluid changed  , didn't know when the last oil change was  , (when I bought her). But now she's all better! :) And waiting for braided brake lines, skid plates, rock sliders and all sorts of other goodies. After the holidays of course... I spent too much money already.
39,000. I try not to drive it much because I don't want any dings or dents.
Other people don't care about there vehicle when next to the VX.
103000 and climbing daily.
32000 pampered, rainfree, never in a parking lot, never driven by another human being, overwaxed, indoor storage, synthetic fluid, never used the wipers or squirter, never had the TOD do anything, gently driven, miles:bwgr: A bit sad isn't it.....but...it is still new
Daily driver & off road in Colorado & Moab summer after summer. 117,000 :p
141,345 daily driver, seldom washed unless you count when it rains. Haven't had any major issues. Have had to replace the EGR, MAF, and two O2 sensors (it seemed major during those times when it wasn't running, but were easy fixes with the help of all you forum experts)
Thanks by the way!
99 vx with almost 89000
Both are nearing 50K.
96k and running strong w/ window problems:mad: Lol
A few miles from the 110K mark. When I flew out to Texas to buy her, she was at 23K miles. I drove from Texas to Florida in her that day. Best drive of my life!!!
I logged into this poll 2004 with 82K miles. She just rolled over 200K miles. (200,800) So far one tranny, one radiator, one set of brakes pads, one power steering hose, just replaced 1 set of Nittos T/G with a new set.....The worst component on the car is the aftermarket Pioneer AVIC-N-2 navigation unit...pretty much junk...Mobil 1 since new is the only special care she gets
well cant say it has been trouble free but just got through 260,000 kl although the TOD don't work 4L dont work and it is now running like someones pissed in my tank.
It still has the one main Vehicross feature working though.. I'm still hitting my head on the low roof when I get in!
Sorry guys, having a bad day when I wrote that.
Thing is I only got it a month ago and seem to be going from one expensive problem to another.
I do like the truck and will do my best to get it fully working again, hopefully without needing to selling the wife and kids, well the wife anyway..

Hi Fuddy Mucker,
This is the place you can get help for your problems. Check out ebay and get a vehicross workshop manual first. If your not familiar with mechanical stuff get it anyway for your mechanic. Also, much of the routine stuff are interchangable parts with with the Isuzu Trooper 2. 1998-2001. Parts are all over the place over here in the US, the UK may be somewhat problematic. But can't see why they wouldn't ship....New parts for this car can be very expensive and not worth the price. i.e. a complete transfer case new with sensors is probably over $2.000 and is available thru carparts.com for a low as $150...
A good source for major component parts is going to, http://car-parts.comuse pay pal. The TOD has 2 sensors off the rear of the transfer case (Hi and Lo)...not sure by your description "TOD doesn't work" is pretty vague...but I'd check the wiring off those sensors near especially near the exhaust pipe and make sure there secure and still attached to the sensors.
Not sure bout the "pissed in gas tank"..that's a good one;eeko; Not exactly sure how you nail that diagnosis down with certainity, except maybe start the engine and go around to the back of the car, get down your knees and take a few wiffs off the tailpipe and see if it has that distinct steamy pee smell aroma:?:
good luck anyway.
John
In 2007 I had 50,000 now in 2010 70,500 still running well. Still mostly stock but added a roof rack, tinted the windows (the 130 degree summers required it), replaced the god awful radio/CD, Put new rims on her and kept maintainance up to date. In the past I had the TOD sensor issue as well as a troublesome rear axle seal leak.
Congrats Mark
Think I'm just over 52k now :) Only problems so far was a leaking intake gasket and that was covered under warranty.
133K
165k, running and looking good
When I got my former garage Queen last December it had 19K now a every day driver and just hit 27K mi, I think its time for some mods:grino:
Hey my family i just hit 140,000 an still going strong, just normal issue no biggie:):smilewink
should we do a new one of these since this is from 2004:confused:
95k with a rebuild at 89k...... love it
Looks like I'm the winner(?) at 193,000 so far just got back off a 1500+ mile round trip and no issues to speak of.
Sorry didnt read all the pages
160,500 + and a new radiator.
Just bought it today with 66k. :D
You guys need to get out more - 213,000 miles !- other than the odd vibration I have had since I bought it - I am havin to replace the transfer case now. looking for a good low as possible mileage.
I got 235,000 on my Proton. BTW any major component need for your VX is readily available at: car-part.com Transfer cases are cheap there. I paid $525 including shipping for a tranny with the T/C. That was at 185, 000 miles on the my chassis. The tranny had 66k and was out of a Trooper 2. It came on a pallet and was drop shipped to my sons work because they had a fork lift over there. Probably not necessary for a T/C alone. Good luck Lashquat. Car Part is not just one place but is 100's of wrecking yards across the US and Canada on a common website...
IMO, this thread/poll should be closed and restarted. Votes/Results since 2004 don't give ANY real indication of current mileage/problems on your units.
Especially for the few who really want to complain! Don't you think?
Even 2yrs since the last real posts before Lashsquat.
:_confused
Hey everybody thats all lmpressive but mine is a one owner , me bought it new, a few sensors had fits
