Marlin, it's not so much what others like; when it comes to your vehicle, make it yours... By the looks of it, I'd say you have accomplished that swimmingly!! Back in 1990 when Guard vehicles started showing up at just about every local body shop that could accommodate them to get their desert tan paint job before deployment to The Gulf, alot of people wondered about that color, namely, "is that pink or tan"? Desert Tan officially, pictures seem to make it look more pink, especially with red in the background. I always thought it looked really cool at sunset, parked on a beach...just my two cents. You've made it yours, own it, be proud!! Nice job...
Looks great. Fantastic job.
Oh I am proud, but like most VX owners, we crave attention and I am no exception to that characteristic. My wife thought the VX was ugly when I brought it home all stock. I told her I had a vision, after lift and tires and whatnot, she thought it was the coolest thing ever.
Then I told her I wanted it tan on black, she thought that was a stupid idea "but its your [my] truck, do what you want" with that attitude tone of voice. She thought it looked so cool afterwards, now she wants to do hers and she even offered to paint the emblems on the VX for me!
I would even be open to negative opinions, but this project took more time and money than any other project I have done on the VX, and as you "senior" members know, I have spent a fortune and hundreds of hours on that truck. I probably have $30K tied up in that truck over the last 4.5 years.
I have a bunch if interior stuff to do, yank the ABS light, replace the gages with the cool white ones from SSig, install the LEDs for that, rewire the rear camera, setup wiring for my LED light for the bumper, wiring for the rock lights, finish foam filling rear panels, paint all the random showing yellow and so on.
Gonna be a long summer.
man the more you look at it the meaner it gets
Looking Good Marlin....though I'm not sure my single color is "Boring"....
........
Jo
That is just my opinion, maybe from my days of having a blacked out honda civic and a blacked out toyota.
I just hope my bumper comes out as nice as yours, but I doubt it, we all know how marlenstein came out.
As long as we both get results WE are happy with...
...all is good !
:dance::thumbup:
Jo
I like it, the tan linex color looks sharp.
Looks great, I was thinking OD green and black for mine......Thanks for the pricing and pics.....can't wait!!!!
:yeso:
Marlin,
I think the MILSPEC VX looks great. I've just been holding my tongue out of mourning over the loss of another Proton.:)
It really does look great though.
Tom
I understand, and as I posted earlier in the thread, there is some feeling of loss of the yellow monster. I feel like I am driving a new truck, its a bit quieter than it was. Not much left to do to the old girl. Adjustable center link, 4.56s (I have a rear third LSD in the shed) some electrical stuff, the bumper and that is it. Not sure what I am gonna do after that, start working on the RS? I think I may build a kilby style skid plate since a full sheet of 1/8" plate is only like 40 bucks more than a half sheet, so I will have plenty of extra. We will see, that is a whole different thread:)
Speaking of which, did you see the URE thread for Hallowharrie, you need to bring the Proton down, they will think it is mine at first...lol.
You are soo AMAZING I wish I could be like you one day. MAN you have the BEST VX around.
Sorry you asked for it tho and your welcome :p . I too was was waiting for final product. Now I didnt like the tan at first but once you added the contrast of the cladding it really brought out the Tan. The red Isuzu emblem on the hood is a nice touch. I am liking the Idea of Digital camo. Over all i dig it.
LOL, I did sound like a whiny Biatch didn't I:smack:
Thank you, swung by the LineX dealer today, talked about the touch up and the photos. They said I really need to make the tire look good first, so demanding:)
i think it looks b.a. dude  - only thing missing is a machine gun turrett
Marlin, if I've said it once, it's cuz I've used it a thousand times...WD40! Want your tires nice and new, black lookin', without the phony shine? WD40! Want your paint (Or LineX) to shine like new? WD40! Got a wet ignition? WD40! Squeaky suspension, door hinges, bed springs? WD40!! Vinyl interior lookin' tired? You guessed it, WD40! Will not harm paint, plastic, rubber, or you for that matter...ask me how I know. After seven-plus hours in a truck with me, I think even jeeperkate believes me; heck, she even read the WD40 book!! Maybe it'll fix her transmission...hmmmmmmmm.........:_confused
Oops, sorry, :ot:
I happen to have a brand new can, I will try a tire tomorrow, u wouldn't happen to be a salrs rep would u? :-)
Nope, but I should be...I reeeaally believe in the stuff and have for damn-near forty years. (Discovered it when I was fifteen, workin' on cars and motorcycles!) I wouldn't be caught dead without it in my kit-bag...
Smartass... But I still luvs ya Jo.
It may be an Urban Legend but I was told long ago that WD-40 was developed by NASA (or some company did it for NASA). It was for some kind of lubricant for the extreme cold of space. Initially the only lubricant that would work was some kind of fish oil. WD-40 was developed as a synthetic alternative because the shelf life (and probably smell) of the natural stuff was so bad.
Hmmmm, did the WD40 on the tire, good and bad. Bad, tire did not get any more black once it dried, good, it made the lettering WHITE. Not what I was expecting at all, but it made it white with virtually no effort.
Soak that sucker good Marlin and then wipe the crud off, you'll be amazed...Look ma, new tires!!!
Interesting, Chris (it is Chris, right?). What's the plan for the door jambs & underhood? I understand why you were considering the gray cladding as that's a color combo I was considering for my Army truck. I dig the Isuzu badge on the hood. Otherwise, I think the whole thing will look much better with some dirt on it!
P.S. Trivia: WD-40 = Water Displacement - 40th Formula.
The tan is a perfect color match for rustoleum tan bedliner. Door jams will be painted to match. I did bottom of hood in black a few years ago. The rest i wil do in tan at my leisure. (Code for lazy)
Good info on wd40:)
Want to see pics of the interior!
hey bro, did u go to a specialist in the linex? i wanna get my cladding redone. it had some sort of bedliner on it when i bought it but i got hit on one side and its chipping away. they told me 800$ for the cladding, what u think?
That is a good price if they are going to do all of the removal and install. My guy (Anthony) will do black basic LineX for 600 if you drop it off. If you want LineX extra (any color, UV protectant) it was 750-800.
I don't know how to define specialist. All LineX dealers are franchise owners. They have very strict rules they have to follow and you certainly cannot do it yourself. It takes very special equipment, a spray gun with more than one nozzle, heated to 160 degrees IIRC, sprays out at 2500lbs of pressure. LineX is actually a two part material, hardens within seconds of leaving the nozzle.
As for the interior, I can get some pics:) I have no carpet left inside, herculined the entire horizontals of the interior. Multiple coats. Basically, I used several of the medium sized cans they offer. No more interior rust, no more worrying about mud stains!
I still need to get some LEDs to do the gage face swap.
why doesnt anthony live in cali... dohhhh
Doesn't get any closer than that!
Hehe how bout in my back yard closer hihi. Im out of town till friday. Im gonna call you jo. Take u up on the beer and ill join the linex group. Woop
One door jam down, all cladding mounted properly, rear spare mount and antenna mounted. Bunch of interior stuff to do now.
Nice. Just be csreful with the interior cladding. I could never getmine to match up like new again
Interior cladding? If you are tlakig about all of the plastic, I removed all of that stuff. No plastic left except dash, doors and the rear roof flap and door sill.
Smart. Yes the interior plastic. I took it all off to paintcand it never fit again like it usto
Finished putting the headlights in, they are awesome. the stoneguard covers are a gigantic PITA though. Extremely well made, but a PITA. Imagine doing window tint, but over lots of curves and with material almost 1/8" thick. I got most of the bubbles out and said screw it, its hot outside:)
On a most foul and anger inciting note, the IRS told me yesterday that I mau get my tax return the first week of July. ****ers. They screwed up in processing, bounced it around for the last 4 months with no group willing to take care of it.
They said I will get 3% interest on it though...starting 15Apr. I filed 24JAN, should start then....GGGGGGRRRRRR...I dont understand how anyone could be a democrat and want more government or be a republican and want to support the existing government.
