Just added my name to the list . Oh boy, I have a lot of projects to finish in the next 6 months...
Too bad this will coincide with the Overland Expo in Flagstaff...would've been cool to hit both on one trip.
We're going to swing by it on the way home from Moab either Friday or Saturday. Come with us, it's not that far out of your way!
http://vehicross.info/forums/showthr...=OVERLAND+EXPO
ZuZoo is basically the same time...Tuesday May 15 - Saturday May 19. The Expo is Friday May 18 - Sunday May 20.
And it ain't exactly "on the way" from Minnesota...looks to be about 5 hours south of Moab. If ZuZoo was a week later I'd hit it though.
darn, I'll be driving to Alaska ten days before just like last year, my businesses season starts right around then...dangit!
I am also considering doing White Rim Trail before ZuZoo, anybody interested? (NOTE this would mean camping out in the wilderness for a night or two...)
Yeah, I know it can be done in a day...most folks say to take your time and stay out there 2 or 3 days. Maybe with an early start it isn't too rushed to go around in a day, I dunno. That would save the trouble of making camp twice. Maybe on Monday before ZuZoo?
I was looking at the map, and it turns out I have been on a piece of White Rim...some years ago I went down the Shafer Trail with a coupla other rigs (don't remember who, probably 8 or 9 years ago). Looks like we went down Lathrop Canyon to the river, then back. Those switchbacks are awesome.
need more info please PM me wit it thanks
This year I'll be staying at the Red Rock Lodge. Some of you may be familiar with this place. A bunch of rowdy people seem to congregate there.
This will be my first trip to Moab. Who do I contact for reservations at this "happy hangout" I've been told about? Definitely wanna hang out with the most VXer's.....also, how soon do I need to make reservations?

Understand it sure ain't no 4 star hotel...heck it's barely a 1 star....and it's a motel not hotel. But it's fine...you won't be in your room much anyway :laugho:
It has two rows of rooms that face each other with the parking lot in between them. The rooms on the side where you see most of the pics where our fam is hanging out is the "old" building, rooms smaller.
The other building across the parking lot is newer, larger rooms, a little more modern. I chose these rooms cuz some of those rowdy folk can party till the wee hours...and it's a bit quieter...:goof: J/K boyz...and Lisa! :laugho:
The parking lot is like 50 ft wide, so it's not like your room is "far away" from the "stoop".
Here's some pics to give you some idea. These ar all showing the "older" building.

Also, if you enjoy camping or are on a budget a lot of the VX/Zu crowd will be at Pack Creek campground also.
We'll be totally prepared and anxious to visit with the rowdiest crowd! And I wouldn't stay in a fancy place if you paid me to.......we are definitely country in that respect. Looking forward to seeing you guys!
Thanks Sue, every time I think I have gotten less rowdy, I drink something like tequila and it all get loud! I am gonna give an alias so no one knows what room I am in!
Best thing about the Red Rock is they are very tolerant...don't mind us clogging the lot with 'Zus.
I will be sleeping at Pack Creek, but most of the evenings will be hanging at the Red Rock.
Some get there saturday or sunday and others monday, come and go as you wish!
Question for you guys - Sonya has agreed to go to Moab this year (:D) but we'll have to bring the girls with us. The inn you guys stay in sounds okay for a pair of adults, but I'm a little concerned there won't be much to do for the little ones during the day (Sonya will probably stay in the hotel in the afternoons so the girls can nap). Are there any places to stay that might have stuff like wifi, pay-per-view, etc? Entertainment options will make the time in the hotel pass much faster.
There are lots of other choices:

Thanks BigSwede, I'll start calling around and try to find something close.
Driving - got to show off the 5-speed! ;) The plan is to head out there with you guys, then drive to Wisconsin and spend 2 weeks with her family before heading home. Fortunately the girls ride really well, but we're still trying to break up the trip as much as possible. Probably drive to Colorado then take a day off to bum around a bit before heading on to Moab.
Any restrictions with bringing a dog that I should know about?

Glad to hear the news Mav!....
:thanx: Ms Sonya.....:dan_ban:..
Yeah, there is...can't bring a dog to a National Park. Canyonland National Park has a few of the trails that some VXers go on, so no doggie there. You may have seen one pic of Zeus (Justin) with Menace, that was in Canyonland, and he didn't get busted there, but did tell me he got "ticketed or fined" another time with the dog.
I found a doggie day care/boarding place just 2-3 miles South of town. Paul Phines and I were going to keep our 3 dogs (my 2) together for the day we went there. As it turned out I was too pooped for that trip, and just Paul kenneled his dog there (I think overnight). Can't recall the name of the place right now, but if Sonya is staying with the girls, she should keep the dog. The lady that ran the doggie place was a bit, shall we say "eccentric"...she must have called me on my cell phone 5-6 times to find out if we were coming to drop the dogs off, blah blah blah.. I told her I'd pay for the night even if we didn't make it, and she was spun up about that as it would take a space (well 2 spaces) away from some one else that needs to kennel their dog/s.....it was weird. I'd look for a different kennel if you need one.
Pets are not allowed in the backcountry of Canyonlands National Park. This includes all four-wheel-drive roads and hiking trails. Pets may accompany visitors in frontcountry areas, which include overlooks, paved and two-wheel-drive dirt roads, and the Squaw Flat and Willow Flat campgrounds, but must be leashed when outside a vehicle. Pets may not be left unattended, tied or physically confined in the frontcountry to facilitate backcountry travel.http://www.canyonlands.national-park.com/visit.htm
Will be awesome to see you and another Foxfire! YAH!!!!
Moab Doggie Day Care 435-259-7922 Karen is the owner. She is a little out there,BUT she really cares about the dogs.My dog has stayed there 2 years in a row and loved it. It does fill-up.That's the reason she wants to make sure you are going to use the facility:grinb:
Yup, that's the one. Yes, she does really care. Guess I was just frustrated since she kept calling when I was on the trail and talking and talking and asking for an ETA....and I had no idea how much further/how long etc...plus ya can't drive with one hand and speakerphone was useless.
